The Magic Shop

Roxy wants something new

added 9 years ago O

Roxy entered the store. An aroma of damp wood filled her nostrils as she inspected the antiquated botique.

She wasn't particularly interested by any of the whatsits and doodads on display, but she was fascinated by the atmosphere the store cast onto her, like it was important somehow.

"May I help you?" Roxy turned to see an old man, with little hair left on him. He seemed quite at home in the store.

"Just looking." She replied, irritated.

"Oh really? You seem to be searching for something. But you don't know what?"

She eyed the man suspiciously. "How'd you know?"

"Magic, my dear. This place is filled with it."

He smiled and held out his hand. "Come, I'd like to give you something to drink."

Roxy reluctantly followed the man, wondering what he was up to. He led her through the labyrinthian aisles, to a small water fountain. Filling up a small cone, he handed her a drink, and then pulled out his own canteen. "A toast, if you please."

Roxy half-heartedly tapped his canteen with her cone, and stared off as she sipped her water.

"You know," He said, noting her shorts and tank top, "People could get arrested for dressing like that, back in my day."

"Yeah, well, get used to it."

He chuckled. "I like you, Roxy. Tell me, what troubles you?"

Roxy sighed, and started to tell the man. "I'm in college, right? A good one. My parents, they adopted me at five, and they spent most of their time sending me to boarding schools and homes, trying to 'Get me ready for college."

She downed the last of her water. "And now I'm in college, getting a pharmaceutical degree, and that's it. Everything's gone like they wanted it too."

She crumpled the paper cone as her voice grew angry. "But that's everything! My whole life! THEY decided what was best for me! Nothing exciting of unexpected EVER happens to me! I can't live like this anymore. I need- I need change."

The man sighed. "My dear, I know just how you feel. I was like you once. But believe me, soon, changes will come. Whether your parents want it or not."

She smirked. "Hope so. Hope they get rid of those sticks up their asses..."

"Ah, Roxy, I'm afraid the store closes now." She found herself in front of the door. "Goodbye, dear."

"Wait how did you know my na-" And the door slammed in her face.
