As Gene walks away, you decide to try something different. You bring the flashlight in its bright pink setting to your shoes and, while being careful not to hit and change yourself, you turn it on aiming at the heels of your sneakers. You watch the heel - and only the heel - of your right smaller getting longer, lifting the heels of your foot somewhat in the air. One inch, two inches, the difference between the height of your toes and heel feels odd. As your right heel is lifted up five inches into the air and starts feeling particularly uncomfortable, you switch to your left foot and go through the same action.
As you stand up again, turning off your flashlight, you notice you are taller than before - though of course it is only because of your five inch heels. Soon after this, however, you come to a second conclusion: it is very hard to stand up straight, let alone walk in these shoes! You almost fall down, but manage to grab a table to keep you upright.
You then notice Gene walking towards you. "Hey you," he says, "I left my bag here, but... Is something wrong?" Gene is noticing your lack of balance and offers to help you. You hold his shoulder and manage to stand up straight, then take a few short steps. "Uhm, thanks, " you say. Gene looks a bit perplexed. "Since when do you have a problem with long heels?" he asks you, "You've been wearing those since before I met you and never seemed to have any problems."
"I'm thinking about starting to wear flat shoes, honestly," you tell Gene, playing along with how reality has apparently changed to accommodate for your odd style of shoes. "Really?" Gene asks, "but what about your height?" You are of average height, so your not sure what Gene is taking about here, but you figured that in this reality, you wear long heeled shoes because you feel uncomfortable with your height.
