One pretty Jenny Nancy Mule stood stretching a mouth filled with beastly instincts while mixed in was some remaining human thoughts. Singleton reached a loving hand to stroke her strong hairy face.
"I'm really sorry dear Nancy but this Medallion does my bidding in only one direction! Please remain calm and I for one will be most greatful. I suspect those equine instincts are wesseling into your brain making human thoughts and memories a far second to living as a Jennette Mule. Come now out through the kitchen and into my garage where you may stay till the stock truck arrives." offered Singleton as his evil and money obcessed mind worked to his ultimate advantage.
The sounds of wicked brays echoed the street as a once black Cabbie played for his desires with the Garbageman's Mule.
"Good evening Mister Larson!' said Singleton to the livestock auctioneer.
A greeting all around had Singleton making a deal to sell dear niece Nancy Farnsworth to the Middleton City Auction. Figures and numbers flew till the happy, "I agree!" came from both parties. As Singleton hung up the phone he turned and looked out the kitchen door to see one fine young Mule looking back at him from the garage window.
The very next morning Mister Larson loaded a skidish young Mule into his truck. A fair looking black male Mule stood nervously inside as Larson paid Singleton for the prize load.
"Where you keep coming up with these fine animals is a mystery to me, Singleton!" said Larson as he slammed the door shut on his truck.
Two Mules inside the truck began to bray friendly calls as Singleton shrugged his shoulders and waived a good bye to his Niece.
Little did Singleton think of the problems to come when by midmorning as he counter his plunder the phone rang. A slow saunter acorss the room soon made his spine stiffen when Mrs. Farnsworth, Nancy's Mother asked to talk to her daughter.
A totally unprepared Singleton studdered and staammered trying to think of some good quick story about nancy not arriving as yet. He knew his cracking voice and unsure sounds were making the story far too unbelieved on the opposite end of the phone.
One very upset Mother hung up the phone as a worried Singleton wondered what he could do about this mixed up mess. A nervous evil man began to pace the floors as he tried to make a plan. The shaking hand kept reaching into his pocket and rubbed the medallion for all it's worth.
"Damn me I'm such the fool!" grumbled Singleton as the morning wore on.
"Damn Medallion is turning into a curse on me, this wonderous ability to transform people! I almost would like to try and be one myself if it could only be true!" he exclaimed as the right hand rubbed the medallion and it's power level began to warm.
Singleton sat in the livingroom bay window and gazed into the street. All life continued on as normal but in his small world everything was topsey turvey.
The phone rang only to offer him more trouble. Mrs. Farnsworth announced her coming and would arrive on the afternoon train. Singleton could do nothing but agree, then as he hung up the reciever a wierd thought touched his conscience.
"I wonder, what if I could wish myself to take Nancy's place and let her greet Mrs. Farnsworth for just the time she's here? It might work, it has to work, it would get me off the hook!" said Singleton aloud.
Taking the Medallion from his pocket he rubbed it till the powers made the bobble glow. "I Singleton command this Medallion!' he said as the Medallion's glow drained to a bright silver luster.
"I wish, I Singleton do wish to trade places with Nancy Farnsworth who now is a jennette Mule, till her Mother comes and leaves happy!" said Singleton as the medallion glowed extra bright.
A tingling feeling soon had Singleton peering through large eyes and standing in a stall at the Middleton City Auction. One Nancy Farnsworth suddenly stood looking at her naked body while finding herself back at Singleton's townhouse home.
Memories of what happened and how she felt being a Mule sent young Nancy screaming into the upstairs. Crashing through her bedroom door she saw the luggage she'd brought still setting next to the bed. Silky things flew about as Nancy put on her comfortable clothing. A good meal in Singleton's kitchen, she then began to calm down even as memories of a beastial self raced in her mind.
The ding dong of a door bell sent her to see a Mother half mad with worry and ready to kill Singleton.
"Mother!" exclaimed Nancy.
"Daughter!" exclaimed Mrs. Farnsworth.
Hugs and kisses followed as Mother and Daughter greeted till Nancy offered one very ugly story.
"Nancy I'm ashamed of you and your story, Uncle Singleton has only the best feeling toward you! Oh and bye the bye where is he?" asked Momma.
A fast search of the house only offered a pile of clothing in the kitchen and not a sign of dearest Uncle. A relieved Mother happy to find her Daughter safe gathered up Nancy's things. "I think it best we go home till this story and the facts can be known! I will leave Uncle a note and we can take the evening train home!"
Nancy wandered the house still knowing what she saw and felt for a half day as a Mule. It was when she angered and began kicking things about Singleton's house a swift kick to the pile of clothes offered on bright silver bobble, the Medallion.
Scarfing up the bobble she put it in her dress pocket and with Mother's call the two left Singleton's stately home.
Meanwhile back at the auction a Jennette Mule stood looking at farmers and meat packers all ready to pay for his body. A casual look to her rear only offered one angry male Mule, a Cabbie now being the power to haul and not a driver at all!
On the train and in Mrs. Farnsworth's private compartment she chidded nancy about her wild story of being changed by Singleton into a Mule. "My dear Daughter that's one tall tail you have!" said Mrs. Farnsworth with a smile.
Nancy peered out the train window only to see the large white and black lettered sign, Middleton Stock Auction, cattle, hogs, sheep, horses, & mules.
