Pulling on some socks and rearranging her hair to hide her ears, Mary quickly put her plan into action before she had time to doubt herself. Trotting down the hall to John's door, she knocked.
"Oh, hi again," John smiled as Max tried to worm his way around John in the doorway. "Max, sit!" John said strictly, pointing to a mat a few feet from the door. For a moment, Max seemed disinclined to obey, but after another assertive command, Max finally wandered over to the mat and sat, cocking his head.
"Didn't expect to see you again so soon." John turned back to Mary.
"I just couldn't resist," Mary grinned, exposing her slightly oversized canines. "I was thinking, it is the weekend, and there's not much to do, how about meeting up for dinner?"
John looked interested, then hesitated. "Ordinarily I'd love to, but I'm still working with Max, and I don't trust him enough to leave him on his own for hours yet. Sorry, guess I'll have to take a rain check," he replied, shaking his head.
"Oh, if that's the case," Mary hurried ahead, "Why don't we have dinner here at your place? We can order delivery. It might be fun for Max too to have someone else around for a while." As if in response to hearing his name, Max whined a bit, feeling rather forgotten.
John looked over at Max, then broke out into a smile. "Okay, I guess if you don't mind, that sounds like fun."
"Great!" Mary responded. "What time would be good?"
"How about seven?" John asked.
Nodding, Mary waved goodbye to John and Max and headed back to her apartment. Pulling out the vials, she found the "dog" vial, which had refilled itself, and after a moment's thought, the "human" vial. Giggling to herself, Mary began setting out some baking supplies.
After a few hours, the peanut-butter oatmeal cookies had cooled, and Mary's new sense of smell was causing her mouth to water quite a bit. Licking her lips with her longer tongue, Mary walked over to the coffee table where she had left the "dog" and "human" vials.
On the cookies which she had made round-shaped, Mary sprinkled a bit of the "dog" vial contents, carefully regulating the amount. She had also made two bone-shaped cookies with less sugar, and on these she sprinkled a larger amount of the "human" vial.
Wrapping up the round cookies on a plate, and placing the bone-shaped cookies in a bag, Mary readied herself for the evening, choosing a long flared skirt that would cover her feet, and using her hairstyle to hide her ears. While looking stylish, she also carefully ensured that the clothes she chose were stretchy and easy to remove if need be. Putting the bone-shaped cookies in her purse, she examined herself once more in the mirror, then, satisfied, headed out the door to John's apartment. As she knocked, she heard Max give a yip from inside the door, just as John opened it.
"I know we're ordering out, but I felt like baking, so I made dessert," Mary grinned. "Hope you like cookies!"
