The Other Side of the Looking Glass

added 8 years ago A

You frantically pat at your pockets with your non-trapped arm, looking for something, anything that could help you get out of this mess. You come up empty-handed, but for a stick of gum and some pocket lint. You swear, taking deep breaths to calm your nerves as you try to think.

“HELP!” You call out, but only the sound of your own voice echoes back at you. You wait several minutes, breathing heavily. No one comes.

“Shit!” You swear, staring worriedly at the paw-like hand on the other side of the glass. You’re afraid of what you might find if you step through the mirror, but it’s beginning to look like your only option. You don’t have the patience to stand around and hope somebody comes and rescues you.

Another few minutes of waiting and your racing mind has produced no other solution. You steel yourself, and face the glass directly. With one, final, anxious twinge, you step through the mirror.

The latex engulfs you, welcoming you into its pleasantly warm embrace. For a moment, you’re blind, deaf, and dumb, and on the verge of panic. But then the latex retreats, flowing off of you and back towards the mirror you had just passed through.

What it leaves behind is shocking, though not entirely unexpected. You’re covered in thick, golden-red fur. A muzzle pushes forward into your field of vision, capped with a wet, black nose – a nose that suddenly feels like it’s being assaulted by a menagerie of different scents. A tail pokes through your shorts, sending alien sensations through you as it wags slowly back and forth.

You look like you’ve been gene spliced with a golden retriever. You clasp your furry head in your paws, flattening your long, floppy ears against its sides. This was surreal! You whimper, the sound disturbingly natural as it emerges from your muzzle.

“Lucas!” Your lift your head, your ears swiveling and perking as you hear your name. You recognize that voice, and your tail begins to wag faster with a mind of its own.

“L-Lexi?” You ask, your tongue lapping at your wet nose – apparently this body’s idea of a nervous reaction.

An anthropomorphic canine strides towards you on two legs – at least you’re not alone in your transformation. This one is a nicely curved husky girl, wearing a tube top and a miniskirt, bearing a striking resemblance to your girlfriend Alexis, fur and all.

“Duh? Who else would it be?” She answers you, planting a hand on her hip like she always does when she’s upset. Well that seals it, this is definitely your girlfriend.

“C’mon, ya fleabag,” she says, her tone softening a bit. “You promised me a day at the groomer, not some creepy carnival, remember?”

“But – what?” You take a step back from her, your claws clicking on the floor. Why was she not freaking out?

“What’s the matter with you, Luke?” You can’t deny that the luxurious black and white fur works for her. And those puppy dog eyes! “You look like the time I told you that your sister was dating a mutt.”

“Uhhmm… no… I’m ok…” You manager to mutter, staring wide eyed around you. The mirrors surrounding you have changed. To one side, your reflection seems to be nothing more than a normal dog – were it not for the humanity lurking in its eyes. You wave a hand at the reflection, and watch as the dog shakes one of its front paws back at you, a perturbed look on its face.

You turn from this mirror, blinking, only to find an equally disturbing one on the other side. This mirror shows you as you are now, with one important distinction. You’re female. You jump, startled, then watch in fascination as your reflection’s fluffy, pert breasts wobble up and down. You take a half-step away from the glass, frightened to even be near such a possibility.

Thankfully, the mirror behind you, the one you’ve just come through, shows you what you’ve been looking for. It’s you, the human you. The real you. So all I have to do is walk back through there, right? Then back to normal?

“You sure you’re alright?” Alexis asks moving closer, looking concerned. “You’re acting weird, Luke.”

You look at her, amazed. She was acting as if nothing were wrong, like you hadn’t both been morphed halfway into house pets. Wh-what were these mirrors?

“N-no, I’m fine.” You stammer, baring your teeth in what you hope is a convincing smile. Further along, you see another mirror that seems to be showing you as you are now (perhaps a change that isn’t so easily noticeable?). You’re wearing an expression of wide-eyed befuddlement, which is almost comically appropriate for your canine face.

“Ok, if you say so.” She seems dubious, but then a mischievous smile lights up her features. “Maybe we should just get out of here? Go home?” She sidles closer to you with a teasing wiggle, her tail brushing against your legs.

“Y-yeah, maybe.” Your mind and heart are racing, blood pumping through your body. Maybe you could spend some time in this world? Your tail wags more quickly at the thought. You should be able to get back through the portal whenever you like, right?
