“What the?! How do you know about...?!” John exclaimed. “Holy shit…” he said, smacking his forehead.
Jenny giggled, brushing herself off. “Apparently we both haven’t been completely honest with each other.”
“This isn’t funny!” John roared. His love for Jenny had taken a backseat to this sudden new information. “You’re a human, like me!”
“Yeah, of course I am. Wasn’t that obvious?”
“No!” John sputtered. “I thought I was the only transformed human here.”
Jenny cocked an eyebrow. “Why would you think that? Of course I...” Her eyes then opened wide. “You’re not part of the mission?!”
“The what?”
Jenny’s jaw dropped. “Oh my g-- Daniels! That son of a...” she muttered. “He can’t!”
“What? Tell me! What mission!” John roared, crouching over Jenny.
“I…” Jenny began, then looked in shock over John’s shoulder. “Kaecinus, no!”
John looked behind him at the elf pointing a large bow and arrow at the center of his back. John quickly looked back at Jenny, who avoided his gaze. John slowly raised his arms in surrender. Jenny got up and walked towards Kaecinus, walking in front of John so Kaecinus couldn’t shoot.
Kaecinus began shouting his usual bluster. Jenny and John both tuned him out, and Jenny began quietly speaking to John. “Look,” she began. “I’m sorry, but you shouldn’t be here, as you’ve probably gathered. There’s a man that can help you living at the base of that mountain over there. Sanin can help you find him. He’s a wizard in this world, but he’s a human like us. His human name is Ken Phillips, and his wizard name is Lore Redstaff.” Jenny leaned in close and gave him a final kiss. “Goodbye, John. I hope to meet again soon.”
“Jenny, come on!” Kaecinus yelled.
“I’m coming!” Jenny walked towards the elf, never breaking eye contact with John. John was too numb to really process what was happening. Before he knew what had happened, they had both saddled their horse and gone. John fell to his knees, tears welling in his eyes.
