Later that night, Nate and his family slept. Or at least tried to.
Nate was excited about actually meeting real werewolves and the possibility of his dreams to become one himself edging closer to reality.
His younger brother Eric tossed and turned, wondering if Nate would really go through with it, and what would happen to the rest of his family if he did.
The parents stayed up for quite a while, arguing back and forth the pros, and mostly cons of living in Moon Lake.
While both desired to move as soon as possible it was not an option, for William had no other job to go to and until their house in Minnesota was sold, there was no "spare" money to afford a move anyway.
Finally, the parents drifted off to a fitful sleep, unaware of being observed by two figures on a hill behind their house.
"What do you think?" Samantha Twist asked, as she stroked the fur of her werecat mate Frances.
"Typical normals, so far," observed the lady, rubbing her furry body against her life partner.
"Their son Nate will probably be joining our Ben as a werewolf soon," said Samantha, as the werecat playfully nibbled the other's ear.
"Which would fulfill the Town Council's edict," Frances added with a sigh, despite the pleasure she was receiving.
"I know. But isn't the woman just dreamy?" asked Samantha.
"Yes," agreed Frances, as she turned to nuzzle her mate's neck. "But even if this Martha might be bi-curious, we can't even raise the subject of possibly introducing her to lesbianism without running the risk of her becoming a werecat too."
"Well, we wouldn't be the first group that presented someone a possibility and left the matter in their hands," pointed out Samantha.
"True," agreed Frances, "but there are a lot of obstacles in this path, even if Martha does eventually express such a desire."
"I checked. Right now they're stuck here, even if she does say no. But if she ever did say yes, it wouldn't be bad, having another member in our family. Would it?" asked Samantha.
"No," admitted Frances, shaking her head negatively. "Our pride is so small as it is, compared to some of the others around here. Despite the openness and acceptance of the world today, there just aren't that many people in Moon Lake who are—"
"Do you ever regret becoming a werecat, let alone..." wondered Samantha, as her voice trailed off.
"What? NO!" replied Frances, shocked that her mate would even ask such a question. "I admit that when my family first moved here as normals, I was too young to choose or have a change forced upon me when they all decided to become weredogs. As I grew older, I knew I was different than everyone else, and not just because I couldn't transform. Then we met and, despite just turning thirteen, I fell deeply in love with a slightly older woman."
"Fourteen wasn't that old," interjected Samantha.
"That first night together, during what I thought would be an innocent sleepover, was wonderful. And so have been all the nights since," Frances said with a smile.
"I honestly didn't know that I was also initiating you into werecat society," admitted Samantha.
"I'll admit that the first time I changed was a bit of a shock, especially since it occurred just as my family's pack was about to perform the ceremony to initiate me into their weredog society, but I have never had second thoughts about anything. Especially you!" said Frances, before kissing her mate.
"Good thing you did change before the ceremony," said Samantha, after they broke the kiss. "I have absolutely no idea if a werecat-dog hybrid is even possible, let alone what one would look like."
"Doesn't matter, as long as I got to spend the rest of my life with you," replied Frances. "Speaking of which..."
And then there was no more conversation as the two werecats spent the rest of the night in more romantic activities.
