I stared at myself in the mirror, trying to take this all in. "Maybe later. I'd like to try some more extreme changes. But can you bookmark this one? I really like the look."
"Noted." Runt grinned. "I like it too. So, what do you consider extreme? Want to be a gorilla, or maybe an oak tree?"
"No!" I shook my head. "Nothing like that. Um, I'd like to make changes that would probably mean I wasn't me any more. Uh, I mean, no apartment here."
Runt thought about that a moment, and then suddenly grew taller, his features becoming a mirror to mine. "That's OK. I'll fill in for you."
It was weird suddenly having a twin. "Wow. I can have my life back after, right?"
Runt snorted. "You think I want to stay like this? As soon as you are done playing, you're back to this life."
I nodded in relief. "OK, then. I want to try life as a primitive. An aborigine in the Australian Outback, before there was any contact with outsiders. Very young, healthy, and in a strong and prosperous tribe."
"I have to say that is a first." Runt grinned. "When you are ready to come back, just say my name."
The next second I gasped and clenched my eyes shut and brilliant sunshine replaced the dark night. I was sitting on hard, dusty ground surrounded by green and brown grasses. A naked toddler, no more than 3 years old, was banging two rocks together and giggling. She was almost coal black, obviously aborigine. Looking down, I discovered I was a boy who might be even younger, with equally dark skin. As I tried to process that, huge hands scooped me up and I was placed against the waist of a young aborigine woman. Her breasts were full and I found myself automatically taking the nipple that she guided into my mouth.
I could still remember my past, but being a baby seemed normal. As I nursed, it got harder and harder to find anything wrong. I was starting a new life as a primitive child.
