Placing pen to paper, he slowly wrote, "To whom it may concern," but stopped.
Behind him, a gathering of people and creatures could be seen, but whom these people and creatures were, it was hard to make out, as none of them appeared to be in focus. Glancing at the nearest, he asked, "Is this really necessary?"
A quick nod from one of the creatures, while a couple stated that it was and turning his attention back to the paper, he thought a moment before writing:
"There is no one named Alex. But, at the same time, there is. When I began writing this story, using the CYOC.net site, it was an experiment in my writing and to figure out what I could and could not write, what I was comfortable writing and whether I should or should not use my real name or a nom de plume. Well, I can tell you that I have come far and learned much. And one thing I have learned is that I have grown beyond the use of this site.
"So, it is with a heavy heart that I wish to state that I am cancelling this story and taking it elsewhere. Who knows. Maybe someday I shall publish it in a hard form, as opposed to a digital format. Returning to the subject of Alex, I apologise to any who feel I may have lied to. As I stated, this story was an experiment, partly in what I was capable as a writer and whether I was comfortable using my real name or a pen name. Alex is a nom de plume and is one I have become comfortable with using, thus shall be publishing my work under said name (and, in fact, I already have). It was not my intention to deceive people. But it happened and, again, I am sorry.
"With that said, I am cancelling this story. I will most likely finish typing it, but shall be going back and retyping several areas I have never been happy with and have felt that the site CYOC.net hampers me in. Looney28, if you are reading this, you might see the finished version turn up in the guild. But that all depends if I get the time to post.
Sincerely, Alex "Izzi" Drummond
Leaning back to re-read the finished product, Alex considered if it was appropriate to post, whether it would be deleted and how many people would read it, including the mod of the CYOC website. Behind him, several of his characters shifted about, clearly sensing his unease. After a couple seconds, one of them commented, "It has to be done," which was greeted by several agreements, as well as someone saying, "Our story must be told. You must tell it. But it cannot be done in this form of media."
Certain that they all had valid points, Alex still wasn't entirely convinced. He felt something more needed to be said. But what? That, he was at a loss as to what. Glancing towards all the characters and creatures he'd created, some whose story hadn't even been started, realizing that they were all inside his head and not physically surrounding him, he slowly nodded. Muttering, it has to be done, he reached for the mouse, hesitated for a couple seconds before dragging the pointer so that it hovered over the post chapter option. Glancing at the character who'd become the centre of the story, Alex stated, "You do know that if I do this, your story may never be finished."
A quick shrug from the character who retorted, "My story is already in hiatus. And doing this, I understand that it might be the end and that it never will be finished. But, on the flip side of that argument, I could point out the goodness of cancelling it on this site and how it might allow you more freedom to do what needs to be done to complete the story."
Seeing the point in this argument, Alex smiled and nodding, he exclaimed, "Very well," and still holding the mouse, he clicked the left button, swore at the stupidity of the site and how it still had a problem keeping him logged in, altered the user name a bit and once again clicked the option to post chapter.
