"Look, we have to be back at the hotel in 3 hours. We don't have time to wait for Philipe." Sandra pointed out. "Besides, I don't really want to go to the mountain anyway. At least we'll see some pretty trees along the way." "You're right." Daniel said. "Let's go now."
Before making a quick check to see if anyone was around, Andy threw their packs over the fence. "C'mon, we have to be quick!" Quickly and quietly, the three quickly scrambled over the fence.
The mountain towered above them in the blue sky full of wispy clouds. The sun was beating down, but the jungle trees that covered the mountain sheltered them from the sun. "Dude, we gotta The ground was covered with leafy plants, just dense enough for someone (or something) to crouch down and hide without being seen. "Well, let's go." Daniel, Andy, and Sandra started up the winding dirt path toward the crest of the mountain.
Two hours and three bottles of water later, they weren't even halway up the mountain. The sun was hanging just a touch low in the sky, turning it from clear blue to a quiet blue with yellowish undertones. "OK, that's it. I'm DONE!" Sandra yelled to her two friends. "We've been climbing on the stupid mountain for god-knows-how-lodng, and the only exciting thing that's happened has been me finishing my water bottle! I'm turning around. Keep going if you want." And with that, Sandra turned tail and started backdown the path. "Due, we gotta do something." Andy whispered to Daniel. "Sandra!" Andy yelled. "Wait up! We're coming!" Daniel could just see Sandra's purple tank top breaking through the leave.
Suddenly, a huge rumble shook the mountain. "Oh FUCK!" Andy yelled. "It's an earthquake! We've gotta go get Sandra!" Daniel and Andy started racing down the path, boots thudding on the dirt. "SANDRA!" Daniel yelled. They broke through a dense path of leaves and moaned. Sandra was lying on the side of the path, blood streaming from a wound on her temple. She had hit her head on a rock. "Oh shit. SANDRA!" Andy screamed, running forward. Suddenly, the ground shook again. The leaves danced in the shaking wind as the mountain started to rumble. A huge crack appeared in the mountainside right under Sandra. Unconscious, she rolled toward the crevasse, jumoed right off the edge, and plunged into the dark
"NO!" Daniel yelled, running toward the crevasse. Suddenly, a blur of black jumped down from a nearby tree. Andy and Daniel cried out in surprise and jumped back. A very large, very hungry looking black panther padded slowly toward them. Growling, it swiped at them with it's claws. It looked back at the crevasse and back at them. It shook it's head, fur swaying. It's green eyes met Andy's for a split second, and he later swore he saw human intelligence in it's eyes. Then, with a sway of it's long tail, it bounded up the path and out of sight.
"Oh shit, man, what are we gonna do?" Daniel mpaned.
