Nate walked into the house and immediately went upstairs. All he wanted at the moment was a nice long shower. After that, he wasn't sure what the day would bring. He walked down the hall and passed by his brother's room. He noticed Eric laying on his bed, staring at the ceiling. Nate decided to stop and talk to his brother for a minute. He knocked on the door as he opened the partially ajar door further.
"Eric? Hey buddy, how's it going?" asked Nate as he walked in.
Eric sat up on the bed and shrugged. "Pretty good, I guess. Just thinking about things."
Nate pulled out Eric's desk chair and sat down, throwing his legs up on the end of Eric's bed. "So, what are you thinking of?"
Eric seemed to hesitate for a moment. "You know the girl's house I went to yesterday? Julie?"
Nate nodded. "I haven't met her yet, but I heard that you were going over there. Why?"
"Well, I think I may have a crush on her. But I don't know if she's into me or not." Eric looked conflicted and in need of some big brother advice.
"You may just have to take the gamble and tell her how you feel. How much attention did she pay to you at the party?" replied Nate.
"Well, the party it turns out was just for me and her. To make me more comfortable in Moon Lake."
"Really? I'd say it's probably safe to say she is in to you in that case." Nate noticed Eric smiling briefly before returning to a look of concern. "But I get the feeling there is something else. What is it?"
"Well, it turns out she's a were."
Nate sat up and leaned forward. "Well, considering this town that's not a huge surprise."
"She's a weremermaid."
Nate looked surprised at Eric's revelation. "I was not expecting that. There are Weremermaids? Wow..."
"And if I get together with her, what if she wants me to become a weremerman?"
"Yeah, that's a predictament. I mean, this was something I always wanted, but for you this...yeah. I can see where you're torn. If it makes any difference, if you did I think it would be cool."
"Thanks Nate. That reminds me, how did last night go?"
Nate smiled, remembering back to the previous night.
"Can I see it? I want to see you transform!" asked Eric. Nate seemed hesitant. He hadn't even done it again since the night before. "Please?"
"Oh, all right." Nate stood up and kicked off his tennis shoes. He also pulled off his shirt but left his sweatpants on, not prepared to get completely naked in front of his brother.
Eric watched with rapt fascination as Nate tried to focus and will the transformation to begin. Soon it began to happen and Eric watched as Nate's fingernails grew out into sharp claws and as brown fur began to grow in. His feet stretched and reformed into digitigrade paws. His chest barreled out as ears grew to points and his face pushed out into a lupine snout. Nate reached back and pulled out his newly grown tail from underneath his pants. The entire transformation only took less than a minute.
"Wow..." whispered Eric. "That was cool."
"Thanks," growled Nate. Eric got up and walked over to his brother, checking out his dramatic transformation up close.
"You know, maybe being a were wouldn't be so bad. Does it hurt to change?"
"Not really. It actually feels good," replied Nate.
"Awesome." Eric walked back over to his bed and sat down again. He had much to think about.
"I'm going to go take a shower. I'll talk to you later though," said Nate. He gathered up his things and left his brother to ponder some things.
