"Okay. Let's think this out. No point running around without a plan," realized Marcus, the leader of the Gamboni group searching for the Charlston family so he can retrieve his girl (at least, as far as he's concerned) Karen. "I think the military base would be the easiest to check out."
"How so boss?" asked Vito.
"Tight community. While there will be some civilians around, any none military personnel would stick out like a sore thumb," realized Marcus. "We can just send one guy there to look around, but he will have to be very discreet. We don't want any of those guys on our tails. Dealing with cops is bad enough, but to get someone with access to such high power weapons mad at us..."
"I'll go," volunteered Albert. "Besides, until the Charlstons leave wherever they are right now, the bug in Moe's cellphone and my equipment are useless."
"Good man, but like I said, be careful. Now then, how many people around this volcano?" asked Marcus, while looking at the map.
"Shouldn't be that many. Mostly just living around the base and keeping an eye on Mount Saint Helens," figured Vito.
"Good. The rest of us will check that out first," said Marcus. "It's still a big area though, so it will take a while. Albert, whether or not you find them near the base, join us at the volcano. Then, depending upon how things turn out between those two, we'll recombine our forces and take on this Moon Lake together. But mark my words, one way or another, Karen Charlston WILL be mine!"
"What about her parents?" asked Vito.
"Either they give me their blessing to marry their daughter, or they won't be around to attend the wedding!" replied Marcus.
MEANWHILE...
The Charlston family debated who would become what were for hours. Nichole flatly refused from the start, and still wouldn't budge on the issue.
"But you want our daughter safe from the Gambonis," pointed out Moe.
"But not at the cost of my or her humanity!" replied Nichole angrily.
"Then I could become the were. At least then I'll be able to protect you and Karen," said Moe.
"What if I become the were dad?" asked Karen. "Then I could protect myself and you two." She had been the only one (so far) to actually look through the guidebook Samantha Twist left. Having always loved cats and wanting to be a veterinarian, the thought of becoming a were-feline of some type was intriguing her more with everything she read; although what specific variety, provided she became the family were, remained to be seen.
"We've been at this for hours and have gotten nowhere," realized Moe, while looking at his wristwatch. "They should be home by now. What if we go talk to our next door neighbors."
"You mean Daniel?" asked Nichole. "I'd like to give him a piece of my mind for sticking us in this mess."
"No. I WILL talk to him as soon as he gets home from work and find out what I can from him, but I was thinking we could all go over and talk to the people in the house between us and Daniel," said Moe. "After all, Mrs. Twist did say four-fifths of the town's population are weres, so it should help to get another viewpoint on things."
Nichole thought about it for a moment while Karen kept reading the guidebook.
Then, Mrs. Charlston finally said, "We might as well go over and be polite."
