Samantha Twist walked outside with the other two officers while Samson Carter began taking statements from everyone within the Anderson house. A squad car, with the handcuffed Yvette Smith inside, was starting to drive off. Samantha saw that Yvette (still in her furry were-vixen form) was handcuffed and sitting in the back seat between two female officers, while two male officers occupied the front seat. The authorities were taking no chances that the rogue might find a way to escape again.
Twist really wanted to talk to Daisuke, but could see the man was on a cellphone, probably talking to his grandmother, the Skulk leader Akane no Tachibana.
"Officer Carter and I were already starting to circle around the house, because we got a tip that the rogue were-vixen was nearby," said Officer Thompkins. "Just as we were clearing the house to head toward the suspect's last known position in the woods behind the Andersons, we started hearing sounds coming from the house."
"Just as we're about to enter, another officer and that gentleman," said the other cop, while pointing to Daisuke, "came running towards us saying the were was inside. We entered with just probable cause, only to find everyone inside had just about subdued the suspect on their own."
"You're missing a person. The Andersons have a boy named Eric," said Samantha, for she hadn't seen him during her brief visit inside.
"He must be the normal who came downstairs briefly while we were starting to take the suspect out to the squad car. After he asked, one of the werecats told him everything was all right, and then told the two werewolves to go back upstairs with him for a while."
"What's going to happen to Yvette?" asked Samantha.
"We're hauling her back to jail, stat," replied Thompkins. "She'll be booked on additional charges, and probably arraigned on those with the others she was facing when she has her originally scheduled court appearance tomorrow morning."
"Officer, the rogue is still needed at the hospital," announced Daisuke, having finished his cellphone call and joining in their conversation. "The transformation of her last victim, Jennifer Harper, is still incomplete, and the Skulk community would appreciate it if..."
"I've been briefed and understand the situation," replied Thompkins, "but unfortunately it's out of my hands. Besides, it's almost sundown now. We'd never be able to get the suspect to the hospital's safe room in time tonight. You can have a representative make a request before the judge during the arraignment in the morning. Under the circumstances, I'm sure whoever presides over the arraignment will be willing to make arrangements to help that poor woman out."
"It shall be done," replied Daisuke, before bowing to the officers. Then, as he turned to leave, Samantha asked him to wait a moment.
"Yes Mrs. Twist?" he asked, while bowing slightly before her.
"The Harper woman. How long can a person survive an incomplete transformation?"
Daisuke contemplated that for a moment before saying, "I honestly do not know. I can ask," he offered, while pulling out his cellphone again.
"Please do," requested Samantha, just as her own cellphone rang.
"Mrs. Twist? Just what the hell is going on at the Andersons?" asked Mayor Stovall on the other end of the call.
Samantha briefed the Mayor on Yvette's arrest, and the fact that she would be unavailable to help the woman she turned till sometime tomorrow.
"Damn. Well, at least she's back in custody. What about Eric Anderson?" asked the mayor.
"He's fine, as far as I know."
"Afraid that's not good enough. Is he still normal?"
"I'm sure he is. Eric was upstairs during Yvette's attack and arrest," revealed Samantha.
"Well, please find out for sure. I have my daughter on another line. She's frantic because she got a call from him, but all she heard was him crying until the call disconnected."
"I'll get back to you as soon as I can," promised Samantha. Now what the hell is that all about? she wondered.
Normally, she would go back inside and find out for herself. But since she was still waiting for an answer to her question from Daisuke, she used her cellphone to call Ben, who was upstairs with the Anderson boys, and ask him to take a quick sniff to confirm Eric's status.
