Perfect! he thinks you're a cop and not the significantly more awesome detective you really are. But there's something really off about this guy. He's
obviously a criminal, no doubt about it. The way he said "I've nothing to hide" like a criminal would say. You're definitely on the right track! Now to see what's
in the back of this place and to confiscate anything of value, er, anything suspicious.
You enter the back room and see that there's mostly just boxes and a few animals in cages. You spot a couple lizards, some toucans, and, oh yeah, a freaking octopus!
Those shits are cool, no doubt, but they wouldn't be in some random so-called "john"'s pet store if he was an ordinary pet shop owner. This is bad news.
The bell on the shop's door suddenly rings and John has to excuse himself to attend some random customer guy in a leather jacket. This is your chance to get some evidence.
You look through a few of the boxes. The first one you open has a months supply of crickets. Nothing too weird about that. there are a lot of reptiles here. The second box is
full of various cleaning supplies: napkins, chemicals that are recognizably harmless, and other things that most likely clean up crap. Still, nothing out of the ordinary! You then
open up a third box and "BAM", Dog Treats, of which look completely normal. You pick up one of the boxes and read it and then-
"Sorry about that officer. I'm already getting customers"
You quickly and oh-so-stealthily hide the dog treats behind your back as you turn to face him, "Yeah, sure thing 'John'. I understand."
You look at him with a squinty eyed, careful expression.
"Uh, okay good. Did everything turn out okay back here?" So-called John asks.
"Yup, I think It's all good. I guess I'll be going now." You tell him, whilst still peering at him with the same expression. You then walk out of the backroom without letting him
see what's behind your back because you're a genius like that.
You say one more thing to him before leaving out the store's font door backwards, "I'll be back later for the dog".
You continue to stare at him and totally judge his criminal acts on you way to the car. You drive off to investigate this hardcore piece of evidence that you actually meant to
take on purpose. Justice will be served!
