"WOW! I am sooooo glad you are okay with this," Nate told his folks as he sat down for breakfast. "I've been wanting to tell you for a long time."
"How long?" asked Martha, as she began serving.
"I've known who I prefer since about half way through my freshman year," admitted Nate. "While other guys were starting to get interested in girls, they just didn't hold that much interest for me, compared to the guys themselves."
"Did you have a boyfriend back in Minnesota?" asked his father, sitting down after helping his wife.
"For better or worse, no. There were a few other gay students and we all hung out together. You know, strength in numbers, like the mandatory were by-law here. But nothing clicked with any of them. I wanted my first time, let alone any relationship to be special. Important."
William was thankful that his mistakes didn't cost Nate a relationship, but his wife picked up on another point.
"So you're boyfriend here..." began Martha, as she sat down to join the rest of her family at breakfast.
"Alex not only inducted me into werewolf society, he was also my first," said Nate with a smile. "But, as I'm sure you both know, while there are things that can harm a were, STDs isn't one of them."
"Definitely an unique medical cure," said William, as he poured syrup over his pancakes.
"I've been trying to figure out when, let alone how to say something to you both, but when things started getting bad and we wound up having to move..."
"I'm sorry about that," said William, looking directly at his oldest son. "But we have a fresh start here, and I intend to make the most of it."
"That goes for all of us," agreed Martha. "Are you and Alex serious?" she asked.
"About as serious as you can be, considering we've only known each other for about two days now. We're going on our first actual date after school today, if that's okay with you?" asked Nate.
"Sure," said William, while looking at his wife, who nodded her head in agreement. "But we'd still like to meet him."
"How about inviting him over for dinner tomorrow night?" asked Martha.
"I'll ask him," promised Nate.
"By the way, what's Alex's last name?" wondered his father.
"You know, I honestly don't know," said Nate, bemused by the thought. "Now all I have to do is figure out how to tell Eric."
"Tell me what?" asked Eric, as he walked into the kitchen. He was dressed for the day in some of his better school clothes, because of his after school date with Julie Stovall.
No better time than the present, thought Nate, before he said, "I'm gay."
"And I'm happy too," said Eric. "Can somebody please pass me the butter?" he asked, while helping himself to some pancakes.
"No. I'm gay, as in liking guys," said Nate cautiously.
"Oh. So?" asked Eric, as he fixed his pancakes to his liking.
"You don't have a problem with that?" asked Nate.
"No. Should I?" asked Eric in return. "You're my brother. I'll still love you no matter what you do."
Nate actually dropped his silverware on his plate and hugged his younger brother in response to that comment.
After everyone resumed eating, Eric broke the silence by saying, "Don't forget. I have a date with Julie after school today." The others couldn't help noticing the big smile on his face.
There was more idle chit-chat around the Anderson breakfast table, until William's cellphone rang.
Mister Anderson answered it, and after a brief conversation, hung up before saying, "That was the Dean. He'll be picking me up in a half hour to take me to the court house, in case we're needed during Yvette Smith's arraignment hearing."
"And your morning classes?" asked Martha, although she and Nate had already heard everything.
"He says they're covered. Besides, I was already leaving you the car anyway," William reminded her.
"Say, if it helps, Eric and I can go ahead and ride the bus to school, which would give you more time to get ready for your job interview mom," offered Nate.
"I appreciate that boys. Speaking of which, you better get a move on. The bus will be here soon," said Martha, while glancing up at the wall clock.
As their kids hurriedly finished their breakfast and got ready to leave, Martha looked sexily at her husband and whispered, "Do you think after they're gone, we have time for a quickie before..."
"As much as I would love to, I don't think it'd be a good idea if I go into the courthouse smelling of hot were-sex," said William. "But I will definitely make it up to you whenever we get the chance," he promised his wife.
"Okay. Now, while I'm thinking of it, I'd better call the Twists and let them know about the change in plans," realized Martha. "Besides, I'll need directions to get to the school administration office."
