Martha and Frances planned to sit and chat for a few more minutes, but Samantha had to leave.
"I have to go welcome a new family to Moon Lake, and tell them about the mandatory were policy*," she said, getting up from the table with her food tray.
"Are we still on for tonight?" asked Martha, hopefully.
"Dinner might not be much, but I can definitely guarantee you a scrumptious dessert!" promised Samantha, before kissing Martha directly on the lips. Then she turned to her wife and said, "The garage is right around the corner and Ben's car is ready. I've already settled the bill. I'm taking ours and you can drive his as originally planned. See you tonight honey," before kissing Frances on the lips too. Then Samantha left.
"It's after one. Would you like to go clothes shopping with me?" asked Martha.
"I'd love too," replied Frances. "There's a little boutique on Main Street. Some of their stuff is a little higher priced than other shops, but they especially cater to people with our special needs," she said, before letting out a low meow.
"Gotcha," said Martha, knowing Frances was referring to weres in general, and werecats specifically. She might be able to find an outfit or two there that not only would fit, but would allow her to shift from human to werecat when necessary and be comfortable at the same time.
"I still have to go back to the hospital later on this afternoon and follow up on a few things, but otherwise, we're definitely on for tonight," said Frances.
Martha leaned in close and whispered in Frances' ear, "Do you think there might be a chance for a little afternoon delight?"
Frances smiled at the thought, but before she could reply, her cellphone rang.
"Dang. My business phone again. I'd better take this," she said, while pulling it out of her purse.
"Really?" Frances said in surprise, after listening to whoever was on the other end. "Well, I was going to the hospital later anyway, but I'll definitely make him my first stop. Hold down the fort and keep me posted on any new developments."
"What's going on?" Martha asked. Frances was standing up while putting her cellphone back in her purse.
"Rudy, my secretary, says I've gotten two calls while I've been out. One is from the Mayor's office. Mayor Stovall called and asked if I could stop by and see him."
"Probably wanting your opinion about Yvette and Jenny," surmised Martha, while getting up herself.
"Maybe, but then, that would be odd. Usually I report to Samantha in her capacity as the Town Chancellor and she informs the mayor," began Frances, as the ladies walked with their trays toward the closest trashcan. "The other was from the hospital. Yvette has asked if I could visit her."
"What?" said Martha in shock. "Why would that rogue ask to see you?"
"I have no idea," admitted Frances, while dumping the leftover contents of her tray in the trash. "She's still in custody with an armed guard, so Yvette is no threat to anyone now. Yet as a medical professional, I am honored bound to at least find out what she wants, in case there is any way I can help her get better."
"I understand," replied Martha, while emptying her tray.
As the two ladies walked out of the local Wendy's, Frances turned to her friend and lover and said, "It will be okay sweetie. We may not have the afternoon, but I will definitely make it up to you tonight," she added, before giving Martha a deep hug and kiss.
After their tongues danced in each other's mouths for a moment, Frances said, "Before I forget, let me tell you how to find Awareness."
"What?" asked Martha, licking her lips and relishing the lingering taste of Frances.
"Awareness. That boutique I was telling you about," explained Frances.
Well folks, it looks like it will be a busy afternoon for our main cast in this story line.
