Immediately, Daniel pulled the train's emergency brake and got out, wanting to give back the Scribe his iPad as soon as possible. Who know what the friggin' Scribe could do to him if angered?
He exited the train as fast as he could, running toward said Scribe while yelling "YOU FORGOT YOUR iPAD, SIR!"
To his surprise, the mystical Scribe looked at him sadly, his skin taking on a gray tint, like cold cinders. "No 'Daniel', it's yours now. You made me forget it, accidentally I might add. If you had convinced me lend it to you, one way or another, it would still be mine. But I GENUINELY forgot it, and you willingly picked it up knowing what it truly was… So it's yours now, making YOU the Scribe from now on. Such are the rule, it is so since the first of us, and will be for all of eternity, 'Daniel'."
On those last words, the body of the previous Scribe crumbled, becoming actual ash.
After this, Daniel walked for God only know how long without any direction in mind, almost zombi-like, not knowing how to react. At some point he ended up outside, near a parked car, and looked into one of it's rearview and, like he suspected, saw his eyes were now the most striking orange. Still at a loss at what to do with his own powers, he sat on the nearest bench.
