Mary Lou ran as fast as she could down the tunnels. The voices could only mean that her escape had been detected by the zoo. She hoped her plan with her sister was successful. With any luck, the growth serum would take effect soon and they would mistake the fool for her after the transformation was complete.
She felt no guilt. She was a reptile, after all; an animal. In her world it was survival of the fittest, and everyone was supposed to look out for themselves. So why did she feel this strange sadness? Could her physical transformation be affecting her mind as well? It was a frightening thought, and she pushed it aside as she quickly ran through the maze of tunnels.
As she turned the next corner, she stopped in surprise. There was a human with a flashlight up ahead. She looked closely, and saw that it was the other keeper, the fool's boyfriend Adam. She began to turn around when she heard voices behind her. Now she had no choice but to move ahead. She carefully examined the human from her hidden view in the shadows of the tunnel - he appeared to be alone but she saw that he had a tranquilizer gun with him. She sized him up - at 9 feet tall she was easily taller than his miniscule 6 feet, but she could see that was trim and in good physical shape. His short soft hair fluttered in the breeze, and when he turned she saw his strong piercing eyes scanning the darkness. She saw why the fool was interested in him. For a human, he was an attractive mate. She quickly shook her head, clearing it of confusion thoughts. She had to move ahead, but she had to decide how to handle the fool's mate.
