The tryouts were more difficult than she thought. Not the exercises, but avoiding contact with any of the other girls. Everyone's outfit was so skimpy, and revealed so much skin. And they were constantly required to interact with each other. So far, she had managed to keep the contact limited to clothes. She was now 5'9" - what she considered her ideal height - and she had no desire to get any larger.
Tryouts were almost over, and she was about to breathe a sigh of relief that she had survived. She hadn't done that well - probably because she was still adjusting to a longer body - and she doubted that she would be accepted onto the squad. Because she was larger, she could no longer be the small girl they tossed in the air. Instead, she had become the large anchor in the human pyramid.
And it was in the human pyramid when everything went wrong. She was at the base, with a girl perched on her back, and another smaller girl on top of her. Suddenly, the top girl fell, and the pyramid collapsed into a pile of bodies. Beryl tried to scramble away from the pile, but it was too late. She felt some of the girls touch her bare skin. She could really feel it this time, probably because they had done it so closely together. The girls noticed she was changing, too, and jumped away in fright. Beryl felt her clothes rip and tear, as she stretched and grew taller. When she finished, she stood up, and saw the other girls huddled together far away from her, staring at her in shock. She tried to cover herself, and keep the tattered remains of her leotard over her larger body.
Coach Miller approached her cautiously. With a shock, Beryl saw that they were now the same height. Coach Miller was a tall woman, measuring 6 feet in height.
I must have grown three more inches, thought Beryl sadly. Now I'm taller than most girls. Hell, I'm taller than John. He'll never want to be with me now. He'll think I'm a freak. She sniffled, and started to cry
"Are you okay, Beryl?" Coach Miller asked cautiously, and reached forward and grasped her bare shoulder for support.
Beryl's eyes went wide, as she quickly inched taller than Coach Miller. She pulled away from the equally shocked Coach Miller, and ran into the locker room.
