Kathy had all she could do to keep from throwing the television remote at the small television that sat on counter. The report had come from Moon Lake's local public access channel, and was only available to those who had a cable connection. It was part of the means to protect were society as well as keep up to date. Moon Lake couldn't trust standard TV broadcasts for anything were related or anything that was broadcast via satellite. That could too easily lead to someone who wouldn't respond well to the revaluation seeing such a news report. Cable TV, however, couldn't be so easily hacked and was better trusted by Moon Lake's weres. The response was that when it was introduced, Moon Lake made sure establish office space for one of the major cable companies in the town as a regional headquarters.
Doing so, created a specific cable deal that actually differed from the plans offered to those outside Moon Lake. Inside Moon Lake, the company provided a public access channel that was given to Moon Lake to run as its own news and broadcast system. It covered local news that related to the town's were-beast population, things for the college's events and updates, and as a measure to allow the city government to alert the town's residents to crisis. This specific channel was ONLY offered to those in Moon Lake and was not available to those who lived outside. If one lived outside of Moon Lake, they got a different cable deal that didn't include Moon Lake's public access channel.
That, however, didn't lessen the outrage that Kathy Tucker felt at the moment.
"Parasites... they're stinking parasites!" Kathy snorted angrily at the television.
"Wasn't their commentary voicing your concerns?" Frank asked his wife and moved to rub her shoulders, something he'd learned made her feel better.
"With regards to the testing... yes..." Kathy answered.
"Why do they want to test everyone?" Diane asked as she ate from a bowl of cereal, and knowing that Frank would be taking her into school to be registered as Freshman... again.
"That's just to be aware with things that relate to single gendered weres... such as you and all the werecats," Kathy answered, "For werehorses, which can be mares or stallions, the were-virus doesn't enter through the Chromosomes and doesn't affect them in any way. But the strains of the were-virus from single genders does enter through the Chromosomes and creates the difficulty. In a normal man... if you scratched him, his Y-Chromosome would reject your werecheetah almost immediately and would need to be exposed to another strain of the virus almost immediately just to save his life. In Rikki's case... her rare... condition... delayed that reaction and the partial acceptance of the virus as a whole prevented the other known means of dealing with these situations. I'd like to do the testing just to be prepared in case accidents like yesterday happen again..."
"But the odds of that are low, aren't they?" Diane asked.
"Low, yes, but that doesn't mean the consequences are less dire," Kathy answered.
"I'd hate to be the bearer of bad news, darling," Frank told her as he continued to rub her shoulders, "but with accidents or rogues... testing wouldn't do much. Knowing if someone is XY, XX, XXY, XXX, or X wouldn't prevent the accident from happening."
"I understand that," Kathy answered, "and I can accept the decisions made so far because of it. I might prefer things to be different, but I can still accept it. The thing I'm angry at is that they decided to spy on her! It's an invasion of her privacy and after EVERYTHING she's gone through. She didn't deserve that! And those parasites deciding to get a story spied on her! They might as well have spied on us when we..."
Kathy briefly pulled Frank's hands down from her shoulders to her womb where her child was growing within her.
"Now... I can be just as horny as any other were," Kathy turned her head to look to her husband, "but that doesn't mean I want to be filmed when I'm alone with you."
"I can understand," Frank answered and kissed Kathy's forehead, "but it's too late to do anything but launch a protest about what has been done. They somehow filmed the last moments of Rikki's transformation and that can't be taken off the air now that it's been shown."
"It's not fair to her..." Kathy sighed and sank into her husband's arms.
Diane only looked onto the screen. She was still stressed from how close she had come to being in real trouble and had essentially been scared straight by the entire incident. And to a certain degree, she could agree with her sister-in-laws point. Rikki had gone through just as much as she had and deserved some privacy.
