Amy quickly ran home, eager to tell her folks about her new friend.
“Mom! Dad!,” she exclaimed as she opened the door to find her parents (Elizabeth and Gary) and her two younger twin brothers, Jayden (Jay for short) and Leon sitting down at the table.
“Amy,” her mom said, “There’s no need to yell. Where were you?”
“Sorry I didn’t tell you,” she said, “I was busy helping the new family move in a bit.”
“A new family moved in today?,” her father asked.
“And you volunteered to help them move in just like that?,” Jay said, butting into the conversation, “I think that there’s something she’s not telling us Leon!”
“Well,” Amy said, blushing, “The real reason I came over was to get to know the boy that lives there with his mom.”
“You like him!,” Leon teased.
“Shut up!,” Amy said, narrowing her eyes.
“Well that’s nice that you have a friend,” her mom said, “What’s his name?”
“Tad,” she said, “He’s starting school tomorrow, so we’re going to walk together.”
“She loves him!,” both Leon and Jay yelled, running away when their sister tried to tackle them.

“Wow,” Tad said, lying on his bed, staring at the ceiling, “She...kissed me! She likes me!”
He felt something that he’d never felt before for a person other than one of his family members.
He loved her.
“Maybe we can go for a run in the forest tomorrow,” he said.
Grabbing his phone, he created a new contact for Amy so he could text, call, and email her. Once he entered Amy’s information, he crumpled up the piece of paper and threw it away, making sure his mom didn’t find it, as he wasn’t ready to tell her.
