"Love you mom!," Tad yelled as he grabbed his backpack and slung it over his right shoulder.
"Love you too sweetie!," Jen yelled, "Have a great first day of school!"
Tad smiled as he opened the front door to see Amy waiting for him outside. "Morning," he said.
"Morning," she said, "You ready for your first day of school here?"
"You bet," Tad said, smiling, "I've been looking forward to it since last night." In reality, Tad was only eager to walk to school with Amy.
“I’ve never seen anyone so excited for school before,” she said, “I’m starting to think that there’s another reason that you wanted to go to school today.”
“Another reason?,” Tad said, laughing nervously, “No way!”
“You just wanted to walk with me, didn’t you?,” she interrogated.
“You got me,” he said, sounding defeated.
Amy smiled and and kissed his cheek. “Oh you!,” she teased, hitting on the head playfully.
Tad laughed as she hit him. “Hey! Stop that!,” he exclaimed.
Amy laughed and stopped hitting him.
“Hey, I wanted to ask you something,” Tad said, “After school, do you maybe want to come over for dinner tonight?”
Amy blushed. “You want me to come over for dinner tonight?,” she asked, “Like...a date?”
“Well, I wouldn’t say a date,” he said nervously, “More like two friends coming together to eat dinner together.”
“Of course I will,” she said, “Let me just ask my mom.” Amy pulled out her phone and texted her mom, asking if she could stay for dinner with Tad. Tad did the same, asking his mom if Amy could stay for dinner. After a minute, she put her phone away, smiling. “She said I could,” Amy said, smiling.
“Same here,” Tad said, “And it looks like our ride is here.”
The school bus pulled up to a stop, and the doors opened.
“Do you want to sit with me?,” Amy asked.
“Of course,” Tad said, getting onto the bus with her.
