Amy Howler got on the school bus first, saying hello to the driver and a couple of her friends sitting toward the front as she entered.
Tad Decker couldn't help noticing the seductive sway of Amy's rear as he entered, wondering what it looked like with her werewolf fur and tail, when he stopped in mid-step.
"Hey! It's a new student!" someone shouted, noticing Tad behind Amy.
"Yeah, but why is he just standing there?" asked another passenger.
Upon hearing that, Amy turned to see Tad frozen in place. Walking the couple of steps back to him, she asked, "Tad, are you all right?"
Tad looked at her for a moment, then slowly said, "So many scents."
Quickly realizing what was happening, Amy turned back to the other passengers and said, "Everyone, this is Tad Decker, werewolf."
Almost everyone said hello at that point, and a few even howled to acknowledge a fellow lupine, as Amy continued.
"His parents were Moon Lake born and bred, but Tad was raised elsewhere when his father decided to join the military, so unfortunately he doesn't have much experience dealing with weres beyond his own family right now. With his father's recent passing, his mother decided to return to Moon Lake, so I'm sure we'll all make him and her feel welcomed in time."
With that, Amy grabbed Tad's hand and started leading him to an empty seat in the back of the bus.
Along the way, everyone they passed said hello and welcome to Tad, briefly introducing themselves and what species they were.
By the time they sat down, Tad was feeling far less overwhelmed than when he entered the bus.
"Wow. Mom said Moon Lake would be a new experience, but now I think that was an understatement."
"It does take a little getting used to," agreed Amy. "Normals who just became weres have it just as bad, trying to get used to all the new scents they encounter, but I'm sure you'll rapidly adjust."
"I never imagined there would be so many were species," admitted Tad, thinking over his short walk to their seat.
"So, you never met another were before coming back to Moon Lake?" asked Amy.
"Me personally? Just my folks. If my dad or mom ever encountered one during our travels, they never said," replied Tad.
Based upon that, and considering what happens when a were and a normal first mate, I wonder if that means you're still a virgin Tad Decker? Amy asked herself, smiling at the possibilities.
MEANWHILE...
After getting dressed for the day, Jen Decker composed a long grocery list, but then stopped herself from going out right at that moment, because she wasn't sure exactly when the local grocery store opened for the day.
Since it wasn't even 8:30 yet, Tad's mom grabbed an empty trash bag and decided to start cleaning up a little. Even if they had already missed this week's garbage pick up, the full bag could sit on the side of the house until next time.
Cleaning up her bedroom of moving debris was easy, although all the empty boxes would have to be broken down and tied up for recycling.
Next came her son's bedroom. Tad was actually neater than his mother thought he would be, for her son had already broken down most of his empty boxes.
Definitely have to let him set up his computer system tonight, after his homework's done, Jen reminded herself, as she moved to empty his trashcan.
Then she saw the crumbled up note on top of the empty packing material and other stuff.
Curiosity being a trait of both mothers and werecats, Jen stopped to read it.
Realizing it was from the new neighbor, Amy Howler, to her son, Jen was about to toss it when she got passed the contact information and started reading the girl's measurements, both as a human and as a werewolf.
Interesting. I can see why Tad's smitten with her. She cuts quite a figure either way.
Then Jen Decker read the personal note to her son at the end.
"Hope this isn't too pushy, but I think you're cute. Would love to see you again, especially for a howling good time. Don't worry, I'm on the pill.—Amy."
Jen had to sit on the edge of Tad's bed and think about that for a moment.
When did girl's start being so straight forward? she asked herself, and then quickly added, And when did I become such an old fuddy duddy? recalling her whirlwind courtship with Tad's father.
Jen knew that her late husband thankfully had "the talk" with Tad after their son experienced his first transformation. It was hard on the boy to make friends, let alone find anything even close to a girlfriend; not only because they moved around from military post to military post, but also because of the fact that any were who had sex with a normal human being would turn that person into a were.
Jen Decker looked at the note again with mixed feelings.
That Amy was interested in her son and also a responsible werewolf were positive things. Considering a were's higher libido and fertility rate, if it wasn't for the species specific birth control pills, the world would have been overrun with weres generations ago.
On the other hand, Amy sounded a lot more experienced than Tad, which would have been easy to accomplish considering her son was still a virgin.
Don't go breaking my only child's heart young lady, or you will discover just how dangerous a werecat can be, Jen Decker silently vowed, before putting the note in the trash like Tad intended.
