"Okay, sure thing!" Miley said, and she began singing. Julie enjoyed the sound of Miley's singing as the skin of her tail returned to the glistening waterproof fabric they were made of, and her legs regained their shape. She climbed out of the water and began to take her tail off, when Miley followed. Looking at Miley's tail, she saw the skin was not unlike the material of her own costume tail. In addition, she saw the distinct shape of legs underneath. Sure enough, Miley slid her tail off to reveal human legs beneath a fake tail.
Julie caught sight of the pink slit between her friend's legs. For some reason, her eyes lingered on it for a moment before Miley spoke up. "You don't mind if I come with, do you; meet your family and all?"
Julie jumped at the sudden question. "Oh, uh, not at all!" Julie wanted to change the subject, and fast. "So, you can make your own tails do that, too?"
"Sure, we usually like to just turn them straight into legs, but since your brother saw us, this might be a good way to explain;" she wrapped her tail around her waist and tucked it in, "and cover the naughty bits as well." Miley didn't seem to catch on to Julie's staring; or at least didn't care that she did.
"Good idea!" Julie said as she did the same with her own tail.
Julie's and Miley entered the suite, when they heard raised voices. "Derrick, enough; there's no such things as mermaids." Julie's Mom said.
"And your sister certainly isn't one, either!" Added her father.
Derrick looked over at the two girls and pointed at Miley. "It's her, there she is!"
The parents tuned around to see the girls standing there with their tails wrapped around their waists. "Look, see;" Dad said, pointing at Miley's costume tail; "it's a costume like your sisters. Probably got it at the same place, too."
"Forgive me that you had to see this;" Mom said; "our son had a wild imagination. So, who's your friend, Julie?"
"This is Miley. Is it okay if she stays with us for a bit?"
"Certainly, if it's okay with her parents. What room are they in?" She asks Julie.
"Oh, I'm... local;" Julie said, "and trust me, they won't object."
"Huh, the town is a distance away, off in the mainland; are you sure."
"Yeah, I come out here all the time, the resort is great people-watching; and great swimming, too."
"I see you share my daughter's fascination with mermaids."
"Let's just say, I practically live in this tail." Julie and Miley shared a hearty giggle.
"Come on Miley, let's go to my room." Julie said.
"Sure think, Julie." Miley answered.
"Dinner's in an hour. If your friend's staying for it, we're having salmon."
"My favorite!" both girls shouted at once. They gave each other a look and a smile before heading to Julie's room.
