Julie and Miley dove beneath the water. It took Julie a few moments to work up the courage to take a breath of water, but when she did, she was amazed how invigorating it felt. "Wow, I can't believe I'm breathing."
"Goes with the territory!" Miley said with a cute smile. She took Julie's hand and escorted her around the island, showing her the coral reef and the myriad of tropical fish and sea life inhabiting it.
"Wow, they're all so beautiful." Julie said. "I mean, I've snorkeled in places like this, but being able to see everything like this with no need for eyewear, its incredible!"
"Oh, but there's more, come along!" Miley continued showing Julie around, winding up at a sunken ship a half-mile or so out to sea. It was several hundred years old from the looks of it. Probably a Spanish galleon, but Julie was no expert.
"Cool!" Julie said.
"Yeah, it's a great place to explore." Miley said.
"So, what be we waitin' fer?" Julie said, imitating a pirate. "Perhaps there be treasure?"
Miley giggled and the two mermaids entered the wooden hulk. A couple hours of exploring and playing hide-and-seek, and the girls swam back toward the resort.
Julie stopped by the window of Derrick's room to see him playing a videogame. Julie knocked on the window, startling her little brother, but even more startling was when he realized his big sister was a real mermaid and there was another; so much so that he fell off the bed entirely.
The two mermaids giggled as Julie said. "My little brother is such a goof."
It was late in the afternoon, and the two mermaids found themselves back in the cove where they met. "Well, I better get back to my family, so I guess you can change me back now."
