John walked up to the large nondescript building in the distant corner of the zoo. In one arm he carried a large tube of papers, whose sheets were almost as long as his body when unrolled. In the other arm he carried a small picnic basket, covered by a small cloth. At the periphery of the building was a small trail, obscured by dense foliage. He ducked beneath the branches, and continued down the path to a small wooden shack. Inside the shack were two guards. They inspected his id badge, and meticulously inspected his packages. He didn't protest. He had done this many times before, and he knew the guards were only doing their jobs. They were right to be thorough. He was entering a dangerous area.
John had to pass through two more checkpoints before he reached his destination. He knew these were not the only guards either. Several others patrolled around the outside of the building, hiding in the brush. At last he entered a large room, filled with several computers, television monitors, and surveillance equipment. A large glass window occupied one wall of the room. Outside the window was a large cavernous room. The walls were bland and featureless, but lined with concrete and steel. The walls stretched almost 100 feet tall. John ignored the monitors, and the many technicians who monitored them. What concerned him was in the room, not who guarded it. Besides, he had seen it all before. After all, he worked there.
He was about to exit the other door on the opposite side of the room when one of the technicians looked up.
"Hey, John. I thought you were off today, " said the man.
"I am, " said John with a smile, as he exited the door.
"Freak, " said the man under his breath. A junior technician, new to the job, looked up from his work.
"What do you mean? What is that guy doing?" he asked the senior tech.
"You'll see, " said the senior technician, pointing to the monitor with a smile. "It'll be a good lesson to you. Don't get too involved with your work."
The junior technician just nodded, and watched the monitor with curiosity.
John exited the room and walked out onto a large balcony, raised 60 feet above the ground. Two guards were standing on the platform, armed with large tranquilizer guns. They eyed him cautiously, but did not stop him as he passed with his goods.
John leaned over the balcony and looked down. On the floor was the prize he sought - a large dragon measuring 40 feet tall - 80 feet if you measured it from head to tail. Or rather, from one of its two heads. One of the heads was sleeping, but the other was looking around the room anxiously, as if waiting for something. It looked up, and a bright smile lit up its face. It jumped up, raising its head even to the balcony. The other head lolled behind, still groggy from sleep, and apparently angry at being dragged along.
"Oh, John. I am so glad you came. I was getting so bored without you, " said the head.
John smiled. It was nice to be wanted, to have someone so eager to see you. "It's good to see you, too, Kim, " said John.
