While Adam was now a lot closer to Mary Lou's ideal to a bull gator, she couldn't think about mating right now. They were still in the pen and others might be coming. "If you two are finished, we need to be going," she called. She was a little annoyed that her voice wasn't so deep and intimidating now.
"Going where?" asked Adam.
"Out of the zoo. I promised Mary Lou that I'd help her escape if she tried the shampoo again," said Evelyn.
"Leave the zoo? Like this?" asked Adam, indicating their crocodilian bodies.
"You'd rather stay here and be put on display for humans or taken to a lab?" countered Mary Lou.
Adam paused and said, "Good point. C'mon, I know a way out." The two gator girls followed Adam out of the pen and towards the back of the zoo. They soon came to a larger shuttered door. "This leads down to the sewers," said Adam, "It's a perfect way out. We just need to lift this." The three of them grabbed the bottom of the sliding shutters and heaved. The lock soon gave way and the shutters opened up.
Evelyn winced as she could make out the smell up ahead. "You sure we should use this way?" she asked.
"We can't be picky," said Mary Lou, "Besides, it's not that bad." The three of them walked through and closed the shutters behind them. Fortunately, they had grabbed three bags of supplies that included flashlights as well as more shampoo bottles. "Do these sewers lead out of the city?" asked Mary Lou.
"I don't know, but it will at least be hard for them to find us in here," said Adam.
"I'd rather not live the rest of my life in a sewer," said Evelyn.
"There has to be a way out," said Mary Lou, "We just need to find it."
