Pan virus: A helping hand

added by Galao 7 years ago O

Jack threaded carefully through the empty streets. No one knows who could be lurking in the corners of the quiet city after all. Hide, listen and then move unnoticed: these were the rules. “Great, no satyrs here so far” He thought. “No humans either…” he gloomily noticed but decided to take the absence of the creatures as a small victory for now. Luckily he hadn’t met many of the mythical beasts but his curiosity at one time had almost cost him his humanity.

He had seen them, probably about 20 of them together, males and females. There were not conflicts or worries between them. Instead they danced, sang, drank and even made love in front of the rest. Fortunately, Jack remained far away as not to hear their hypnotic tunes coming from the pan flutes. Still their dances had compelled him to join them and he barely had the strength of spirit to resist the call. He ran away soon afterwards towards some safer ground. He learned something about the creatures, though. They didn’t look nearly as aggressive as humans did and they were in no way shy about demonstrating their love regardless of their mates’ sex. A male could be kissing a female and in the next moment he would be kissing another male, they did this without any moral restrain. Jack had become awed as they had sex in the middle of the streets without caring; some were even involved in orgies. Ever since then Jack felt at the same time horrified and amazed by the satyrs but his judgment was clear enough to make him avoid any contact with the satyrs at all cost.

Humans and satyrs were definitely different but despite the satyrs’ quest to turn humans into members of their species Jack couldn’t perceive them as evil. They were carefree like children but at the same time they showed an incredible sense of love with their kind and to nature that Jack had never seen. They seemed to have abandoned their complicated lives as humans altogether and no one seemed to regret it one bit.

Jack shook those thoughts aside. He needed to find more humans and help them. He only hoped he didn’t find more satyrs as he didn’t even have a successful way to defend against them: he only had a slingshot and some rocks.

After a long while Jack finally saw a human, a boy around his age. He got his hopes up but something was wrong: the boy was running as fast as he could with an expression Jack could only describe as terror. Then he saw why: a satyr playing his pan pipes was walking towards the human. Their music was magical and could easily begin the transformation of humans into satyrs.

Jack had to help the defenseless boy. However he couldn’t just jump in especially when there was an enemy nearby. So he aimed his slingshot at the foe and with a tad of luck he managed to strike the satyr right on the head. The creature collapsed, dropping its pan pipes and Jack ran towards the boy to check on him.

“Are you alright?”

“Umm… Yeah, I guess” The boy answered rubbing the sweat from his forehead. “Thanks for helping me.”

“No problem” Said Jack as he checked his fellow human for signs of corruption. No, apparently he was 100% human. “I’m Jack by the way. What’s your name?”

“Me? I’m Mark”

“Well nice to meet you but we’d better get out of here before more of them come by. We can go to my safe place. It’s a bit far from here but the way there is usually secure.”

Mark agreed and thus they quickly walked away from the fallen satyr, who minutes later came to his senses with a strong pain coming from where the rock had hit him. Looking around he couldn’t see the human he was chasing. “Too bad” he thought. “But it won’t be a problem. He’s heard the sacred song of our people (if only partially) and in no time he will be one of us.”
