Mr. Neil remembered how he had lost his older sister. He was the same age than Stan back then, if not younger, while his sister was already a teenager. For the first time, said sister took him to her daily session of beast-people harassing, not knowing it would be the last.
Before she could enter she beastmen shelter she had recently discovered, what looked like a cat-person, a young woman, got in her path, stopping her. This beastwoman was covered in black fur and had golden eyes, and was dressed in nothing more than a big and colorful necklace.
Neil's sister instantly ordered her to move, calling the woman-cat ‘a soulless abomination’. At this, the two kids heard a voice DIRECTLY IN THEIR MIND, a voice that sounded as furious as than the mysterious woman looked, calling the sister a ‘waste of a soul’, before plunging her arm into the teenager's torso.
To Neil's surprise, the cat-person extracted a sphere of light from his sister, and without making any wound.
Then, said cat revealed herself as Bastet, before telling her story Neil. A story he would hear again a few days latter, in history lesson.
While his sister wasn't technically dead, without her soul she was little more than a pet.
For a long time after this, Mr. Neil stayed as far away from beast-people as he could, fearing them like the plague… Until meeting Mora, the mouse-woman who would eventually become his wife, who make him slowly realize beast-peoples weren't that different from humans.

While Mr. Neil remembered his past, Stan used recess to approach you, pretending to be sorry for hurting you the other day. Then, before anyone could stop him, he took his whistle and used it.
Then a black cat with a strange and colorful collar ran toward Stan, expertly dodging anyone in its path, Emily and you seemingly the only kids seeing it. Once near the bully, that cat changed into a beastwoman similar to the drawing of Bastet in your history book, and shoved him to the ground.
At first, Stan looked around, trying to understand what had happened. (Emily and you still being the only peoples able to see the strange woman.) But rapidly, the black-furred intruder made herself visible to everyone.
Before anyone could react, her mental voice reverberated in everyone's minds. “Your current ways make you a waste of a soul, and souls are a far too scarce on Serra to let them be wasted. Thankfully you're still a kid, meaning its not to late to change your way.”
Stan had barely the time to think he had escaped the worst before Basted added “But I can't leave you without giving you some form of punishment. Can you imagine the message it would send?” That was enough to make Stan pee on himself. It also prompted you to try stopping Bastet, soon joined in your efforts by your sister. Stan may have been a bully, but this divine intervention was clearly enough to convince him to change!
Of course, it was a vain attempt. The goddess simply ignored the two of you, gently placing her hand on Stan's stomach. Your bully started contorting and screaming in visible pain. You didn't notice his change before he stopped screaming.
Startled by the sudden silence, Emily and you looked at Stan. He was now part of the beast-peoples, a rat-boy to be precise. Like you, he looked more human than most beast-peoples do, but still got features than undoubtedly marked him as the rat he is.
Timidly, the former bully asked Bastet “If I'm a good boy, when… When can I hope to be human again?”
“Never,” answered the goddess “but if you DON'T start being good, you will loose your soul ON TOP of being a rat. And before you ask, you'll NEVER get magic, since being a beastboy is your punisment.”
At this point, the goddess took the Stan's whistle from the ground and used her magic on it, before looking at your sister and you.
