The Vials

A nice show, but a little too long

added by JosieHadley 7 years ago O

Mary was getting bored, resting in the tree branch. It hadn't taken long for the authorities to capture Jess. Several people in khaki shorts and shirts with the Zoo logo had entered the apartment armed with large tranquilizer guns. She had heard Jess' roar, followed by the whump of several darts being fired simultaneously. The ground rumbled for a while, as Jess tried to fight off the sedation, but eventually a large thud followed by the ground shaking indicated that Jess had fallen unconscious.

What had taken a long time was moving Jess' large body. She was much too big to fit through the tiny doors of the hallway. Her body was practically packed into the hallway, her sides squeezed against each wall. And Mary could swear that she was still growing with each deep breath, although just slightly.

Jess was also much too heavy for even a large group of men to lift. After much discussion, the police decided to bring in a crane and a wrecking ball. They would tear down the roof of the apartment, and lift her out. This sent the already angry apartment manager into a tizzy. Equally upset were the Zoo staff, who were arguing non-stop with some men in dark suits about who had jurisdiction, and who had the right to maintain possession of the beast.

So Mary waited for several hours on the branch, growing more bored with every minute. She felt strangely comfortable in her new body. She found it easy to fly, and she flitted to different branches to get a better view of the action. After a while, she was hungry again. She found the bark and leaves of the tree surprisingly tasty.

But now, after several hours, the Zoo staff had used the crane to lift the sleeping dragon onto a flatbed truck. They covered her with a tarp, and drove off. The crowd quickly dispersed, now that the action was over. The apartment complex was still off limits, and a patrol car sat near the site of the disaster. But it would be no problem for a small ant to fly by the guards.
