John wasn't sure what was going on, but he was suddenly worried for his sister. If he knew her, she'd be with those gryphons, she might get hurt. Amy was sometimes annoying, but she was his only family anymore, John couldn't let anything bad happen.
Hurrying home, he found where he'd left the box of strange vials. He wasn't sure why the gryphon had them, but he'd taken them to figure out what they did. Looking at them now, he saw names of creatures on the beakers, and one of them said "Gryphon." He didnt know what it would do, but it looked like someone had taken it.
"Amy....did you...?" He wondered. He lifted it up. "Could she....no.....but...I have to be sure." He flicked off the cork and downed the liquid. His body felt a little strange, but that was probably just excitement. The contents of the vial didn't have a taste. Maybe it was a dud. Then he felt a lurch in his body.
His hair felt different, like it was full of small bristles. He pulled one out, and was surprised to find a small gold feather. A feather just like Mara's! It was working! He looked at his arms and the skin from his forearms to hands turned a sickly yellow and was tough and thick. His fingers curled into talons, ending in sharp claws. His body expanded, ripping out of his clothes. His lower abdomen was rapidly covered in thick fur, and a long thin tail sprouted form his back. His feet stretched long and thin, forcing the boy to stand on the balls of his feet. Thick pads formed on soles, and long sharp claws extended from the toes as well. His mouth ached, as a beak burst from below his lips. Finally, two large wings stretched from the kid's back. He screeched in excitement as he finished his transformation into a gryphon.
John flapped his wings and hovered above the ground. It was real, he'd become a gryphon. Taking to the skies, he hurried to try to find Mara and Amy, bringing the box of Vials with him.
