Thanks to the short distraction princess Liza provided, most Magical Girls & Guardian Beasts got a head start. (Familiars would have joined to, but they weren't build to be fighters.) Alas, while Magical Girls having enhanced strength as power, like Maxine and Lou, weren't unheard of, they still were extremely rare. And since most of the girls present had just gained their powers, they hadn't the experience needed to compensate their lack of physical strength in any way.
Guardian Beasts, being physical creatures thanks to their ‘magical bodyguard’ nature, where better equipped against the ongoing assault, but they still died by groups.
Among the Magical Girls still alive, some started to develop strategies, which helped diminish the number of their sisters-in-arms falling, but not for fully reversing this tendency. As the fight goes on, Guardian Beasts bonded with the Magical Girls still alive. This caused the strategies to keep evolving, making it harder and harder for the fiends to predict the good guys next actions.
At this point, only a handful of the new Magical Girls remained, but they had rapidly grown skilled and resourceful, without forgetting the ratio ‘Magical Girl per Guardian Beasts’ made each of the former command a little army of the later, a phenomenon only increased by the numerous lamias who sided themselves with earth defense, following Liza's example.
The lamias who remained on the side of evil with their nagas ‘friends’ understood the wind as changed, and staying would mean dying or, worse, being captured. So they flew, letting the she-devil who caused this whole mess behind.
Freyja used this temporary peace to look at the three young Valkyries she was supposed to form, three girls she saw as her daughters, and wondered if protecting them was the good choice. Sure, she had ensured their survival. But she has also prevented them from bonding with as much Guardian Beasts than the other survivors, prevented them from killing as much demons, too. What kind of mother is she, to curb the growth of her children?
Somehow, Debora was the only one to bond with more Guandian Beasts. Two more, to be precise. One was a griffin, the other a strange mix between a mammoth and a Komodo monitor. Lou only had Lize beside herself, and Max… “Where is Maxine? She was here a second ago!”
Before anyone could notice, Max came behind Lou's sister, surfing of the back of a lamia, and severed the demoness head with her knife/wand. The young Valkyrie and her new friend had progressed enough to understand how to hide their link, and probably how powerful they truly were. The magical tomboy may be way behind most of the last batch of Magical Girls in the Guardian Beasts department, but in raw power probably wasn't far behind…
