Immediately after the she-devil's assassination, the lamia who helped Maxine bring her death presented herself as Ludmilah, last priestess of the lamia species. She then explained that lamias used to be pacific being led by an order of spiritual guides, the priesthood of the snake, until what looked like another species of snake-peoples exterminated all their priestesses and started a forceful assimilation into their own culture.
“Some, like my family, were preserving and transmitting our culture in secret. But as generations passed, more and more of our kin started to forget what they were, WHO they truly were, and this regardless of the segregation between nagas and lamias. Then, some of those lost souls birthed kids that were cold blooded, like our oppressors. That's when we understood the truth, that nagas were in fact demons, and soon our descendants would be too…”
“You're NOT cold-blooded?” Asked Lou.
“Don't let our lower-part fool you,” answered Ludmilah “It may look like a snake's body; hell, this part of us is even molting regularly like a snake does; but we are MAMALS, not reptiles.”
“So that's why you decided to join us,” said Freyja “so your species wouldn't be absorbed into a demonic one, not wanting to share the fairies fates.”
The old Valkyrie then explained how the job now down by familiar was initially done by fairies, until a demonic species of fairies-lookalike named pixies forcefully integrated them into their society, until time changed fairies into more pixies. “The only faeries still around are the one who had gotten assigned the guidance of Valkyries…” What Freyja wouldn't say, is that she is the youngest among the Valkyries with a Fairy Guide instead of a Familiar. She couldn't bring her dear friend and guide Hope on the light like this: The rarely dared to show herself nowadays, for fear of being mistaken for a pixie.
“And countless other magical beings disappeared the same way.”
But Lize didn't listen to what Freyja said, to preoccupied by what Ludmilah had said. That, and the scales on the priestess tail.
Said tail was night-blue with its underside a pristine white. The sides of said tail had little red markings looking like stylized flames, markings Lize knew to be naturals. Ludmilah was wearing a ‘shirt’, if you could call it that, exposing her back, so everyone could see there has the top half of a sun drawn in the same red, another naturally occurring picture. How did Lize knew all those red drawing were natural occurrences?
Under the green polish her mother forced her to cover her scales with, you could see the same symbols on scales in the same color scheme.
The gorgon had heard rumors that, after killing the lamias' high-priestess, her mother forced herself on the son of said priestess. Could she be fruit of this rape? That could explain a lot of things, starting with why she wasn't cold-blooded like her countless siblings.
But some things didn't add up, like the fact she was born from an egg, as proven by her lack of bellybutton, or the fact she was a gorgon, the NAGAS royalty.
She must have spaced out for quite a time, because Ludmilah touched her like she was about to shake her, but didn't upon realizing the gorgon body was warm, a heat Lize PRODUCED! The priestess knew her father was rapped by the Queen before he met her mother and gave her birth, but would never have guessed it would end up with a Lamia princess… And since she was the first (and only) daughter her father had with the Queen, shouldn't she have the same colors and motifs than her?
