The first thing Maggie did after they were told they could leave the school was go searching for Evan. She found him, still in his were form, sitting in the back of an ambulance. Jonathan and Spencer were close behind her.
“Evan!” Maggie almost flung herself into her husband’s arms. Evan jumped up to catch her, not caring one bit about the discomfort the hug caused his arm.
“Thank god you’re alright.” she said. Evan patted Maggie’s head and smiled. He was more happy she and Spencer were alright.
“Of course I am. I didn’t come back from Iraq just to get blow up by some nutcase.” Evan said. Maggie pulled back and gave Evan an incredulous look. She didn’t say anything further, just continued to hug him.
“Hi Dad.” Spencer said, approaching her parents.
Jonathan gave them some space, letting the happy family hug it out. Maggie felt a little crushed, since she was the only one still in their normal form. And Spencer and Evan both had injured arms, which made hugging tricky. They all separated after it became too uncomfortable to hug, and laughed.
“You’re okay?” Spencer asked.
“Very okay. Won’t get a lick of trouble from Jeremy or his father now.” Evan said, stealing a glance at the body bags on the far side of the parking lot. Derek was standing over them, as if waiting for one of them to suddenly spring to life and attack again. But they wouldn’t.
“How are you two feeling?” Evan asked.
“Better knowing you’re alright.” Maggie said, nuzzling up to him. Spencer nodded in agreement.
“Hate to interrupt, but we should probably go before the feds get here and see you two.” Jonathan said. Evan looked down at realized he was still furry.
“Right. Russo, can you…?”
“No problem Beta. Go get yourself cleaned up, we can stall them until you get back.” Peter said. The rest of the team, and the Were Team, had changed back. Evan was the only one left in his fursona (excluding Spencer), since he had the most serious injury. Which, to the SEALs, wasn’t even that serious.
Jonathan drove them in the Fire Department’s SUV, as it was the only vehicle large enough to transport Evan and Spencer’s were forms. During the ride, Maggie examined her husband’s stitches.
“You should be able to change back, no problem.” she said after poking and prodding at the pink line.
“Lucky.” Spencer said, wiggling her still broken arm around. Something she instantly regretted, as there was a sharp pain that ran up her arm.
“Is Eric alright?” Evan asked, surprising both Maggie and Spencer. Evan wasn’t known to be compassionate. Asking about his daughter’s boyfriend’s well being, that was new. Especially considering that Spencer’s previous boyfriend was a total asshole.
“Everyone’s okay.” Maggie assured him. Evan sighed, and leaned back against the side of the car. He was exhausted, and more than ready to spend the rest of the week, possibly the rest of the year, relaxing.
But a buzzing from Jonathan’s phone derailed those plans. Maggie parents were staying with Elle and Jonathan until Christmas. Naturally they heard about the commotion going on, and wanted to make sure their daughter, and her family were alright.
“Great. Just what I need.” Evan groaned. He didn’t not like his in-laws, but they were a bit much at times. Usually he barely had any patience for their personalities. But after the day he’d had, he had NO patience left for anything. Let alone an evening with Maggie’s parents. And they were going to spend tomorrow morning and afternoon with them. Why subject him to more torture than necessary.
“Should I tell them you’d prefer to talk tomorrow?” Jonathan asked.
“Yes.” “No.” Evan and Maggie answered at the same time. Spencer shrugged indifferently.
“Come on Maggie, I just spent the afternoon scrambling around trying to stop a madman, don’t make me spend the evening with your parents.” Evan almost pleaded.
“Oh fine. But I don’t want to hear you complaining tomorrow. You and Spencer go home, and rest. I’ll head over to Elle’s.” Maggie said.
“Thank you.” Evan said, relieved he could postpone the undoubtedly uncomfortable meeting with his in-laws until tomorrow.
“I’m too tired to deal with their shit tonight.” Evan thought.
