As Martha Anderson enjoyed the short break before the last seminar of the Teachers In Service day, covering the evolving role of computers in the classroom that would also discuss when and if they should be used, her acute werecat hearing sensed the cellphone vibrating in her purse. Hoping it was a message from her youngest son Eric, Martha eagerly answered it, only to discover a text from her husband William.
NATE & ALEX HERE & TAKING ME HOME. WILL MEET U THERE.
Martha wasn't sure why her oldest son and his boyfriend were at the college, but replied: K, BUT HAVE U HEARD FROM ERIC?
That received the response: NO, BUT DON'T WORRY. B HAPPY 4 THEM!
Not knowing what else to do, Martha simply put the cellphone back in her purse and got ready for the last lecture.
BACKTRACKING...
Nate and Alex left the Commissary and the Student Center Building of Moon Lake College, not noticing Ben and Kenya stopping to meet Karen Yuletide and her boyfriend Peter Talbot.
Having discussed the ride offer with his father, Nate and Alex still had a couple of hours to kill before Professor Anderson's last class, so started wandering the grounds. They enjoyed the warm sun of the late Indian Summer afternoon and the openness of the campus layout, as much so students didn't have that "boxed in" feeling as well as to allow weres to roam freely at night.
Soon the pair found a nice tree to sit under and enjoy the moment, each commenting on the fact that they had been walking together hand in hand for most of their journey, without one negative comment.
"Guess they're more mature here than in high school," said Nate, as they leaned romantically against each other.
"Naw. The school's social rules affect all couples. Moon Lake High just doesn't want any open displays of affection," replied Alex. "Knowing how powerful the libido of some weres are..."
"Yeah. I guess. So, what do you think?"
"About...?" replied Alex, wondering what was on Nate's mind.
"Us. The future. This place?" asked Nate.
"Oh," said Alex, putting an arm around Nate. "I like it here. Good courses, although we should find something to put all these brochures in before we lose any," he observed, noting the respective piles between them. "Living at home will definitely cut down on our expenses and, depending upon our schedules, we can carpool."
"I still have to get my learner's permit, let alone an actual driver's license," complained Nate.
"You will stud. You will," Alex reassured him, before kissing the top of Nate's head affectionately.
"You still want to be a chef?" asked Nate, nuzzling against Alex.
"Since childhood, even before it dawned on me that I preferred men to women romantically and otherwise," replied Alex. "What about you? A writing teacher?"
"Between mom and dad, the teaching part I can understand, although I'm surprised I didn't think of it myself," admitted Nate. "But writing? I've read plenty of werewolf stories, but to create my own?"
"Sometimes even weres can't see the forest for the trees," said Alex, "but I can't think of anyone more knowledgeable on the subject, especially now that you're a werewolf too. Maybe someday you can even help me author cookbooks."
"Oh?" said Nate, turning his head to look at Alex.
"Yeah. I even have a title for the first one. Cooking and the Single Man."
"Sounds like something I could use in the kitchen," replied Nate.
"No, you won't. You'll have me stud," said Alex, while sitting up to look directly at him. "You may not have been my first in any respect, but as far as I'm concerned, you're the only man in my life, now and forever. I do love you Nate," swore Alex, before kissing him.
"I love you too handsome," replied Nate, using his pet name for Alex after their lips parted, "but you do have to look at this from my perspective. My family moves to Moon Lake just before Labor Day weekend to start the new school year and hopefully save my parents' marriage, and here we are now just over a week from Halloween with not only my folks' matrimonial bonds now stronger than ever but everyone, now even maybe including Eric, a were. I'm now not only a werewolf, but also in love with the werewolf of my dreams, looking at college and our potential future together while I'm still well over a year away from graduating high school."
"I can see where it would be overwhelming Nate. In your paw prints, I'd be overwhelmed too. But my parents say they've been saving for my college education since before I was born, and have been telling me since I've been old enough to comprehend the words that I can be anything I want to be in life. Well, I know what I want to be in life, and I know who I want to share that life with," said Alex, before kissing Nate again.
This time, the two held each other tenderly and gently kissed off and on for a while, until Nate glanced at his wristwatch and saw it was now after 3 pm.
"Okay handsome," he said, standing up while still holding Alex's hand. "Let's go face our future together. I still want to check out the college bookstore, and maybe we can find something to put these brochures in," as Alex handed Nate his stack. "Then we'll pick up my dad, go home, and get ready for our date with the Skulk tonight."
"Sounds like a plan to me, but I do have one question. Would you like to go to the Halloween dance with me next weekend, and if so as what?" asked Alex, as they headed off towards the campus buildings once more.
