"You can't quit because you are a natural born horse. You are here until you die. Unless you want to end up as dog food or at the glue factory, "said the General.
Randy was shocked. "No! I am just a human on vacation."
The General chuckled. "That's not what your tag says. Did you get kicked in the head or something?"
"My tag?" said Randy. Then he remembered the tag Vincent had placed on his tongue, and the paperwork that matched a missing horse. Snowball must have been a natural born horse.
"Wait this is all a misunderstanding. I am not really Snowball. A friend just set this up for me so I could try being a draft horse for a short while, to see if I liked it. But I don't, so I really want to go home now."
"Snowball, you are home, " said the General, looking confused. "Why would a human want to work like a horse? I mean, if they chose to stick around they would have to do it. But who would want to work on a vacation? Snowball, I think you might be sick or confused or something. Maybe we should make a visit to the Doc."
"Never mind, " said Randy angrily. "I'll need to find someone else who can help me. I should have gone to her in the first place."
Randy trotted back to the main entrance of the Farm, and spotted Anna with his old friends.
"Anna, can I talk to you for a minute?" said Randy.
"Sorry... Do I know you?" asked Anna.
"It's me ... Snowball, " said Randy.
Anna's eyes suddenly lit up. "Oh, Snowball. Haven't seen you for while. My, you became quite the stud, " said Anna as she pranced around him to examine him. "Okay, kids. Let's cut it short today. I'll meet you tomorrow morning for your next lesson."
Once they were alone, they began to talk more freely.
"Looking good, looking real good, " said Anna as she examined Randy with interest. "Vincent does good work."
"Not that it does any good for me. All I do is work. I haven't even got a chance to try this thing out, " said Randy angrily.
Anna chuckled. "What did you think horses do all day? Just run and fuck? You wanted to see what it would be like to stay, to get the real experience and we gave it to you. Sorry if it isn't as glamorous as you hoped, but this is our life. And if you had paid attention in my lessons you would have seen that horses have a very complex social order. Breeding is a privilege that they earn with advancement. Unless you want to challenge the leader of the herd."
"No, no. I don't even care anymore. You were right. I don't really want to be a horse. It is too hard, too much work. I want to be human again. I tried to tell the General, but he wouldn't listen, " said Randy.
Anna smiled. "Yeah, sorry to say it but I didn't think you could cut it. But better to learn now, before it is too late. We'll just go find Vincent and ...." Anna paused. "Wait, did you tell the General you wanted to quit?"
"Yeah, " said Randy. "But he wouldn't let me. He acted all confused, and thought I was a natural born horse."
Anna paled. "Snowball, what have you done? I told you not to tell anyone. If you didn't like it, you were supposed to tell me. What exactly did you tell him?"
"Just that I was really a human, and that someone set it up so I could see what it was like to work as a horse, that's all, "said Randy.
Anna began to pace nervously. "Oh, this is bad, real bad. We weren't supposed to change you without permission. If anyone finds out, we will get in terrible trouble. All of us. Oh boy, what can we do now?"
Randy was beginning to get scared. Anna was acting crazy. "Can't you just change me back now, and just forget about it?"
"It's not as simple as that. Not now that someone else knows. Did he believe you? What did he say?" asked Anna.
"He just thought I was sick or something. Maybe that I hit my head," said Randy.
"That's good, that's good. Okay, I am going to talk to Vincent, and see what we can do to fix this. Just stay here, and don't talk to anyone!" said Anna.
