Bill stayed up all night reprogramming the chronivac. At about 5 AM, Jeff felt a surge of energy throughout his body. It seemed to affect every part of him. It felt like every bolt was new.
His dad came back into the garage.
"Jeff, I can't get you back to human, but I did some reprogramming to change your form. You should have full control of yourself as a jeep – start up and roll into the backyard."
Jeff found that he could start himself – even without a key. He threw himself in reverse and rolled into the backyard. Jeff's dad shut the gate behind them.
"All right – I want you to concentrate hard on being able to walk with legs and use arms."
Jeff concentrated hard on it. His individual Jeep parts started to shake. He could feel his gears, fenders, engine parts, and everything else start to twist and turn and rearrange themselves. It was as if something was twisting him inside out. All of his individual components repurposed themselves, and he started to take on a humanoid form. His back section reformed into legs that flipped up and then forward. His side panels formed arms, and his engine compartment pushed forward to form his chest. His instrument panel and entertainment center rearranged themselves to form a crude face. His newly formed head rotated and repositioned itself onto the top of his chest. Jeff used his newfound robotic eyes to look up and down his new body. He towered over his father, and could look into the second floor windows of the house.
"Oh my God!" said Jeff. "I can't believe you did this!"
"Well – if I can't get you back to human, at least I can make you into your favorite transformer: Hound."
