The moment your body was created your soul entered and you noticed that you were on a table looking up at a bunch of odd machinery with odd markings on them. You then heard several voices cry out in joy, and unfamiliar to all these voices you were frightened by the loud noises. You cried and soon you were picked up and held tightly. The person who held you was a woman by the name of Carol. A kind woman who worked for the explorer's guild as a teacher. She teaching the new recruits the skills for exploring ruins in general, and the explorer's guild was created internationally in order to properly investigate ancient ruins and artifacts. Serra was an old world and several people hope that there was some way to get the gods back within the ruins of the world.
In hopes of being able to investigate harder ruins the explorer's guild along with magic and science guilds created you, a thing designed to be the ultimate explorer. A creature who would be able to work well with no light or too much light, breathe water or breathe almost nothing, one who would be able to think on it's feet and one who would be able to stand in a fight. Any trait that the Guild could think of as being good for exploring ruins they gave to your kind, and just now you became the first of your kind to have been granted a soul.
For much of your early life you were raised like a human child by Carol and a few other members of the explorer's guild. You were taught some early lessons about being a living being, you watched some explorer cartoons featuring Captain Amerigo and his crew, and a few questions started forming in your mind. Then after learning how to read, write, and do basic arithmetic you started being taught more adventure related talents. Sure you still read and learned more math but you also had to study ancient languages, mythology, trap design, and lock picking. When you had time you saw some other explorers practicing other things like how to walk quietly and sneaking tactics in general.
Using the sneaking skills you saw the others use you managed to get out of the explorer's guild and look around the city. After a small walk you found yourself in a park where there was a bit of a kids party going on. There were several races at the party and some how one of the parents thought you were a party attendee and scooted in into the party before you could say anything. Quickly though the parents and kids found out that you weren't part of the party. The parents still let you have a little cake as they asked you who you were and where your parents were... also what you were as they hadn't seen anything quite like you. You told them that you were from the explorer's guild but you weren't really able to explain the other things. Carol was nice, but she wasn't your mother and... you didn't really have a kind. You had some scales and gills making you look like a fish or odd amphibian or something... However you also had your lungs and you had a... lack of gender? You were aware of males and females and how they reproduced due to certain myths but you lacked reproductive organs. You just were confused with how you could even respond to some of these questions.
When you had turned thirteen you had undergone most of the training new explorers needed and the new guys were all in their twenties. You were allowed to choose an expedition to go on to get some hands on experience, and decided to...
