The fog only affected men. Suddenly an epidemic of incontinence began spreading beetween the adult male population of the world. It was discovered that there was a virus floating around that could only affect the prostate. Since it took effect in the fully developed organ, only males in the end of puberty were the victims. It caused massive incontinence, depriving the men of the ability of controling or even predicting bowel and bladder movements.
These physical changes had also a psychological consequence: being unable to tell when they were wetting or messing themselves, men became unable to act upon it. They couldn't run to the bathroom during their accidents, or even clean themselves after them, being only able to stand around and ask a woman or a young kid to change them. Having to wear diapers 24/7 and being forced to ask someone to change them also made the men more prone to tantrums. Grown men falling to the floor crying for a clean diaper became a common sight. Female caretakes were requiered for work enviroments.
Legislation even changed to allow men to choose if they wanted to become legally minors again. By signing away their adult rights these men would lose the responsiblity to work to support their families and would be put under the care of a relative. Single men would move back in with their mothers, while married men would have their wives turn into their guardians. Teenage boys that turned 18 after this law was passed were already considered minors, and they needed a special document signed by their guardians allowing them to become legal adults.
To deal with the depression that came with being back in diapers, it was recommended for men to let their caregivers treat them as if they were actual children. Toys, pacifiers and baby bottles were all incouraged to help sad men cope with the reality that they were now big babies, husbands would ask their wives for bedtime stories, twentysomethings could be seen not riding bikes, but being pushed in strollers by their mothers and small children found new playmates in the people they saw as father figures.
All these therapys had subconscious effects as well, and mental regression became inevitable. For some, this meant going back to a state of adolescence where the worries of going out to the real world dissapeared, while others took advantage of their newfound loss of responsibilities to go as far back as childhood or infancy.
At this point, it was also known that the virus affected a men's sex drive. Even though they remained fertile their whole lives, at around the age of 22 the males' interest in sex dropped drastically. Masturbation for men lost its appeal, and most of them only had sex at the request of their partners. Wet dreams were normal, but with a frequency of only a few a year.
While their wives were at work, most men would be dropped off at special centers were they could hang out with each other, and be watched by nurses ready to change any dirty diapers. Children became more mature in a way, helping their mothers look after their regressed fathers. Little siblings found a sort of revenge against bullying big brothers, as they watched them lose all their power in the period around 17 and 19 years old.
Some boys went desperate to achieve potty training as early as possible, relishing the little time they had control over themselves, while others grew less preoccupied with learning an ability they would no matter what lose, so they never fully grew out of diapers.
While most men found no alternative to their new social status,some of them, specially those who were powerful before the epidemic, rejected the changes and tried to live life as they used to. Large companies' meeting rooms looked more like daycare centers, full of male executives wearing onesies under their expensive suits, meetings would be interrupted by a CEO crying for his secretary to come and change him, and smoking breaks were replaced by bottle feedings and naps.
