Day of the Baby Furs: On To My-yam-me

added by s1 7 years ago O

"That was fun," Sammy commented, and remembered his own curiosity and mission to try and make things easier between baby furs and regular humans. He remembered what he'd been told on that issue, but that only served to raise more curiosity. What was the detail that had been found, and why couldn't or shouldn't it be shared? Normal humans seemed to fear the loss of everything from baby furs, and Sammy somewhat remembered having those fears himself. Looking at the same situation from the other side, as a baby fur, Sammy had seen that while he was different, in many ways, who he was hadn't changed. There had to be a way to make it so that normal humans wouldn't be afraid of them and could make friends without transforming into fellow baby furs unless they wanted to. There had to be.

"So, what next?" Jessy asked to him.

"I think we continue on the way to My-yam-me," Sammy said slowly, "there's a lot to do... and there should be fun things in My-yam-me too."

"Beaches?" Jessy asked, "Swimming?"

Sammy nodded, "and the first fur might know some cool games to play."

"Sounds like fun," Jessy commented.

The two paused to look at the road sign and paused for a few moments. The sign to image of a cartoon mouse, while it indicated that they were closer to it than to My-yam-me, also indicated that they would essentially have to double back the way they came to head there. That was something that Sammy didn't think would fully work and was also something that he and Jessy could do on the way back to Frankie Town once they'd gotten their mission done.

"So... we wait for bus fur (four)," Jessy commented as she looked at the sign, "which goes to My-yam-me."

Sammy also nodded and the two moved to sit quietly on a nearby bench at the bus stop that was near the sign. The waived to all their other friends as they filed out to head back either to the hotel or to head to their homes, or even to go somewhere else. A couple came and sat on the bench with Sammy and Jessy and they all talked about seeing the rocket go off into space and the International Friend Station. After a few moments, their bus did arrive and Sammy and Jessy climbed aboard. Those waiting with them waved from the bench as they waited for their bus.

They made their way to a pair of seats and looked out the window as the bus began to drive forward again. It didn't take them long to get onto the highway to drive south from Cape Carnival to My-yam-me. It was a surprisingly fast drive and for much of the trip, Sammy and Jessy could actually see the ocean, which managed to hold a lot of their attention. Jessy watched to see if she might spot a mermaid baby fur out in the water or if that was only just a story. Sammy watched and actually wondered if the first fur might want to go swimming when they found her. He remembered the bubble bath that he and Jessy took in the morning, and despite what one might think, neither of them smelled like wet fur when they got out and dried off. In fact, their fur dried almost identical to the way a human's skin would dry off after getting wet, despite the fact that Sammy and Jessy's fur coats were fairly thick.

"My-yam-me is a fun place to swim," a voice said to them as they rode along.

Sammy and Jessy both looked to see a dog baby fur who smiled to them with the only sort of smile one could see in a friendly dog.

"I'm Trevor the Lab..." the dog baby fur smiled, he then giggled, "a kind a dog."

"Hi, I'm Sammy!" "I'm Jessy!"

"You said My-yam-me is a fun place to swim?" Sammy asked.

"Yeah," Trevor nodded with a smile, "the sand is soft and warm. The water is warm and pretty clear. Nothing dirty in it at all."

"That's great!" Sammy spoke, and thought that a day of swimming might also help see what the first fur might be able to do to help baby furs get along with normal humans without them having to fear baby furs needlessly.

"Do you play any games?" Jessy asked.

"I've played beach volleyball and Marco Polo... some have even gone fishing," Trevor answered.

"For mermaids?" Jessy wondered.

"Naw, just regular fish," Trevor replied, "Never seen a mermaid, myself."

"Would it be cool to see one?" Jessy asked.

"Maybe," Trevor shrugged, "but... but who knows... it'd be lonely for them if they can only swim and can't have fun on land."

"But the ocean is a big place," Sammy pointed out.

"But if there aren't as many mermaids as there are baby furs like us... if you're the only one in that big place it'd be lonely," Trevor commented.

That made sense to Sammy and Jessy.

"Have you ever met the first fur?" Sammy asked after a few moments.

"Yeah... she's fun," Trevor answered, "likes swimming and having fun. She knows all kinds of games and doesn't mind fishing."

"Cool," Sammy answered.
