For a split second, Trevor’s eyes went wide when he realized he was starting to fall forward. He was just about to panic when a voice inside of him seemed to yell, Flap your wings, stupid!
Complying, Trevor’s heart raced again when he immediately regained the altitude he’d lost. After another slow beat of his wings, he was flying forward. A few seconds later, he was already fifty yards from the small door he’d just leapt out of, leaving the transformation room behind him.
He was flying!
Trevor let out an excited caw and started surveying the inside of The Flight Dome as he took wing for the first time.
Just like he’d seen when he first opened the door leading out of the transformation room, part of the dome was built to accommodate a forest. He was amazed at how many trees there were and that the people that built this place had actually incorporated a few shallow hills and creeks. The section of the forest Trevor was currently flying over was similar to the ones he’d been to before, but he noticed it gradually shifted into a tropical rainforest as it sprawled across the edge of the dome.
In the center of the dome was a massive lake. Even though Trevor was still a good ways out, he could see a few ducks, swans, and even a couple of herons and storks lining the banks and surrounding wetlands. The opposite end of the flight dome contained a sandy area similar to a desert and a large outcropping of rocks.
Another side contained an enormous rock cliff towering up the wall of the dome, before it started to slant and curve. A number of other birds were already drifting or nesting along pockets in the wall.
In a lot of ways, the interior of the dome was a microcosm of the greater island, just built especially for birds. It was a lot better than Trevor expected it to be.
