Lucas took a crayon and colored over the hands until they looked like solid lumps. He did the same to the feet. He did his best to remember the donkeys from the zoo. He thought his brother was looking very donkey-like now.

"What's going on?" I said to myself as I fingered this new appendage that I'd seen on farm animals but never thought I'd have. Finally a weird feeling in my hands made me to let go of my tail. My fingers tightened together and stretched out until my hands were as long as my forearms. The fused as they grew, until they looked like just a single bone. Fur grew all the way down my "hands" until reaching my fingernails at the end. My nails darkened, fused, and grew faster than they ever had in my life. Finally, they had developed into large cup-like shapes, and I knew I had hoofs. Donkey hoofs at the end of donkey arms--or I guess that would be front legs.
I involuntarily jerked myself up on tiptoes as my ankles yanked themselves off the ground. My feet fused into single bones just as my hands had. And my feet were long, except for the last joint at the end, where my toenails also grew into hoofs. I knew that last joint was called a fetlock, and it was a pastern that joined my fetlocks to my hoofs. I stumbled back, trying to get my balance. That's when it sunk in that I was becoming a donkey, when I heard my hoofed feet clopping on the tiled floor.
