With the whole store to choose from, Luke decided he would see if another costume would be good. After all, he could always take it off and be the kid again. "What do you have that's really big?"
The clerk looked thoughtful, then said "We have some really huge animal costumes. And some monster costumes, too. But to get out of the shop you have to use special gates that take you to the right environment. Animals end up on farms, or in jungles or other outdoor places. Monsters end up in other worlds where they fit in. A centaur or minotaur would go to a fantasy world, but a T-Rex would go back in time to be with other dinosaurs. Problem is, depending on the way the body is built, you can't get the costume back off and you would probably be stuck forever."
Luke grinned. "A T-Rex would be awesome, but I don't want to be one the rest of my life. I don't think, anyway. Can you show me what you have?"
The clerk nodded and led Luke back to a separate room that was so big he couldn't make out the far wall. "We have several sections you can look at. Everything in here is large. Domestic animals like draft horses and Brahma bulls, wild beasts like moose, elephants, and grizzly bears, mythical creatures like centaurs, minotaurs, and dragons, sea creatures like whales, great white sharks, and giant squid, and even dinosaurs like the T-Rex and brontosauruses."
"Wow!" Luke stared around at the displays. Instead of racks, the costumes were in dioramas with the costume looking like the actual creatures except for the empty eye sockets. A huge male moose was hanging over the back of a female, obviously in mid-mating. He noted both sets of eyes were empty. Inside a giant water tank, a 20-foot squid had its tentacles wrapped around a great white shark. A young male centaur with a flowing mane of chestnut hair was reading a scroll while a massive black minotaur sat beside him sharpening a two-handed ax. Off to the side was a section of a farmer's field with two enormous draft horses pulling a plow through the dirt. The dioramas continued on, with giraffe, dinosaurs, a silver dragon, and countless others.
"How do I put them on? And how do I get back?" Luke was interested in trying them out, but he did not want to get stuck for life.
"You have 24 hours to explore. If you come back to the point you started at within those 24 hours, you will automatically be brought back here and be the boy in the costume again. But you have to be in the exact spot, otherwise it won't work. After 24 hours, the costume becomes permanent and you are the beast for life."
Luke thought about it. There was some danger there, but he was already stuck as the boy. Whatever he did, he could not go back to his old life.
