It takes a few seconds before you realize the dial tone is blaring in your ear. Wait, what?! you scream internally. C'mon, there's gotta be more than that!
You frantically hit redial and pace through repeated rings until the call again goes to the answering service. Hanging up, you again hit redial. Finally, someone answers.
"I thought I said I'll call you, lover." You could hear her smirking through the phone. "Men can't even take directions properly."
"Look," you start, biting your lip to keep from saying something stupid. "You can't just do something like this to me and say I'm now your boyfriend! I don't know what's going on, I need some answers! Can't we meet up and talk this out?"
"That eager for a date, are we?" There was a pause as she appeared to consider it. "Hmm...well, tell you what. If I have a good time on our little outing, then maybe we can discuss your situation after, how does that sound?" You wince, feeling like a puppet on strings. Unfortunately, your tail winces with you, and brushes up against the back of your thighs, causing you to jump.
"Yeah, definitely!" you reply, disconcerted. "Where and when?"
"Oh, I thought the guy was supposed to take the lead in these situations, stud!" she laughed. "You've got the reins this time! Let me know when you figure it out."
"But wait!" you cry. "How am I supposed to know where you'll have a good time? I don't even know you!"
"All part of the game, lover," she purred. "I look forward to your call!" You are again greeted with a dial tone in your ear.
"Damn!" you curse aloud, tempted to throw your phone at the wall, but restrain yourself.
"Hey man, keep it down!" A barely human-sounding groan comes from outside your door, obviously your roommate dealing with his own post-party problems. Why couldn't HE have gotten the tail instead?" you think blackheartedly.
Turning and examining your appendage in the mirror once more, you do so this time with a more critical eye. Luckily, the size of your tail seems more suited to human anatomy than equine, and the skirt of your tail is relatively short, as though it were still growing out. You know that even if by some miracle you can convince your tormentor to remove the tail the next time you meet, you still have to hide it until that point. Nodding, you retrieve a pair of briefs and scissors from a drawer. Estimating the proper placement, you cut a small hole, then slide the briefs on, pausing to thread your tail through the hole. Happy with the fit, you swish your tail back and forth to confirm it is in the right position. Then, awkwardly turning around, you clumsily braid your new tail. Satisfied it is now more like a rope, you maneuver the braided tail between your legs and slide on a pair of boxers, using the elastic band of the boxers to hold the tail in place at the front. It isn't comfortable and causes you to sit rather gingerly, but you are satisfied that no one will figure out what's really going on. At most they'll think you have a bad case of hemorrhoids.
The main problem disguised, you turn your attention to the issue of your "date." Where to take a girl you don't even know is a tricky question. While it's pretty obvious she likes magic and animals, you are really skittish about the idea of taking her to someplace like a zoo and giving her ideas of ways to torture you even more. After grabbing some toast for breakfast and mulling the problem over for a while, you decide to just go for it. This time, she picks up on the second ring.
"Well well, three calls in one day, don't I feel special," she grins.
"Yeah, well, why don't we meet up tomorrow?" you dive right in. "I thought about it, and I found someplace that seems pretty nice."
