"What if we cheat?" Andy posited.
"You mean like, get the case open and find the wish cards? I tried that as soon as I got hired here. They get printed when you win."
"Or open the case and stop the wheel on the jackpot."
"Hmm, it could work. But..."
"But?"
"What if the thing doesn't let us get away with it? It could curse us with horrible stuff it we smash it up. Or worse, it might not work anymore."
Andy considered this. "Well, I don't think we have any chance of winning if we play by the rules. Do you have a key to open it?"
"Nah, but I've picked this lock so many times I know it by heart." She knelt in front of the case, pulling out a glasses screwdriver that had been bent into an improvised lockpick and getting to work on the case lock. "Just so you know, kid, this is on you. Once this thing's rigged, I'm standing outside until it's over."
Andrew hoped she'd help him more, but he could understand. This thing could destroy lives. Soon, the cabinet was open, the coin box and card printer exposed, as well as the motors that controlled the wheel and the moving chute. Andy kept an eye on the chute and told her when to disconnect it. Soon it was pointing straight ahead again. The wheel was trickier, but after a few tries they got it stopped in a good position.
"Alright Kiddo. This is it. I'll be right outside the door. If anything happens, call my name and I'll help if it's safe."
"Uh... What is your name?"
"Aw, jeez. Sorry, I forgot. Candy. Nice to meet you." She offered her hand to shake, but after a glance a his shoulder nubs, she withdrew it blushing. With a good-luck smile, she retreated into the main room of the arcade.
"Here goes nothing," Andrew said, picking up a nickle with his mouth ad dropping it into the machine.
