"Look, can you go and get me a Hershey bar or something from the store?" Reese asked, still shivering. "They're my favorite..." Jennifer walked over and gave Reese a side hug. "Anything for my best friend." Reese smiled and hugged Jennifer back. "Ok, see you at the dorm..." Reese said, walking off towards the quad.
Jennifer turned right and headed straight into the main building. The store was inside. She went to pull open the blue doors but they wouldn't budge. "C'mon..." Jennifer pleaded, tugging harder at the door. It still wouldn't open. She looked up at the sky and realized it had to be after eight, because the first stars were starting to come out. The building closed at eight. Sighing in defeat, she turned to walk back to the dorm. Maybe they could make instant brownies or something.
"Just a minute there!"
Jennifer looked up and saw an old woman, about sixty or seventy, hurrying towards her across the deserted quad. She had dark, wrinkled skin and grayish-white hair. She was wearing a red shirt and long, flowing black skirts with red roses on the them. Her head was wrapped in a purple shawl. She had many bracelets and rings on that jangled with charms as she walked. Around her neck was a necklace with a small star carved onto the medallion in the middle.
This strange sight made Jennifer step back a little. She was too old to be a teacher here and too young to be anybody's grandparent. Besides, her clothes were too eccentric for any normal person to walk around in. Despite this, she stayed put. At last, the old woman came up to here and placed a hand on her shoulder. "I sensed you needed help." She said in dreamy voice. Jennifer nodded confusingly. "Stand aside." The woman said. She did. The woman threw her hands out in front of her and the building doors flew open like a gust of wind had come from the other side.
Jennifer looked at the old woman, dumbfounded. How had she done that? "Come. We will get the chocolate later. I have something important to tell you." The old woman hurried inside. Jennifer was confused again. How had the old woman known about the chocolate? She shook her head and dismissed it all as a dream. She followed the strange woman inside, closing the doors behind her.
The main hall of the building was a high room. The walls were eggshell white adorned with lackluster student artwork and the usual "GO TEAM!" signs you see in every university. The ceiling of the hall was three stories above them. Clustered around the open space to the right of the offices were blue tables and wooden chairs, where the students usually ate lunch everyday. The old woman's slippers made no noise on the gray and blue carpet that reached wall to wall. She sat down at the nearest table and pulled a chair to the other side of her. "Sit, my child." She said to Jennifer, indicating the seat opposite of her. Shrugging, she sat down. The old woman seemed relatively harmless.
"I know of the terrible thing that happened to your friend Reshida Killarney today." Once again, Jennifer was in shock. Reshida was Reese's real name, and she HATED to be called that. The only people that knew were her family and Jennifer. Jennifer opened her mouth to speak but the old woman waved her hand. "Silence." She said gently. "You still doubt me." She had to admit she did. "Your name is Jennifer White. You were born July... 13th, 1995. Your parents are named Michael and Tessa. You have an older brother named Jack and a younger sister named Kelly. You used to have a cat named Delilah until she was hit by a car when you were 15. You and Reshida went to Arcadia University together. You will graduate on June 5th, 2017. You have a red pen in your pocket right now." With that, the woman crossed her arms and leaned back in her chair, looking extremely satisfied.
Jennifer nearly fell out of her chair in shock. All the information was accurate. She felt in her pocket and pulled out a red pen. "What... how..." Jennifer whispered. The old woman waved her hand again. "My child, my methods are not important. What is important is what I sell." Jennifer leaned forward, extremely interested now. "I sell revenge. You name it, I can do it. Turn the boys to pigs for a few hours, make them fail their final in the class of your choosing, get them expelled, get them arrested and make sure they get raped in prison, it doesn't matter. I can tell you were extremely disturbed by what happened to your friend this evening." Jennifer looked at the old woman's face. Was that a tear at the corner of her eye?
"I would have offered this to Reshida, but I felt given her current emotional state, you seemed better suited for the job. Do you believe what you are hearing?" The old woman asked seriously. "Yes, yes. I totally believe you." Jennifer said earnestly. "Good. Now, you have three options. One, I can take care of the boys for you, free of charge. Think of it as my good deed for the day. Two, I can give you access to my powers for a week for one small fee. Third, I can call upon the spirits to take care of the boys. You may not like their methods, but it will get them out of the way. Now.." the old woman said, leaning closer towards Jennifer's eager face. She dropped her voice. "What'll it be?"
