Mary froze as she heard her front door open and someone walk in. Had she left it open? she hoped that whoever it was didn't see her like this.
Soon footsteps grew louder as someone was getting closer to the bathroom and walked in. To her horror she was met by her ex boyfriend Kyle. 'Oh no....' she thought as she laid there in the shallow water frozen in shock.
"well well ...well. Looks like we meet again, Mary" Kyle said in a low dangerous voice that sent shivers down her spine.
"Please don't try anything Kyle...." she whispered in fear.
"Too later" he said as he reached out to grab her.
"No... don't touch me!" she screamed at him while wriggling and squirming in his grasp trying to get away.
With the squirming mermaid in his hands, he walked out into the living room.
"NO, stop! Please! What are you doing!? Put me back!" she yelled at him, terrified that he'd taken her away from the water she was in. As he set her down, all she could do was flop helplessly on the dry carpeted floor, she had to get back into water soon.
"You broke up with me for no reason, Mary. I thought you loved me" he said in a low voice. "I came to try and settle things but, now I'm gonna make you pay for the pain you put me through..We could've been married....."
While he was talking, Mary was starting to dry out. The scales on her flopping tail were getting dry and hot and she was finding it hard to breathe. She hadn't even been out of the water for a couple minutes and here she was rapidly drying out and in desperate need for water.
"Please....." she gasped out "put me in the tub and....I'll explain more.....please....I need water....I can barely breathe....." she was starting to gasp as her gills opened and closed rapidly trying to breathe in the dry air.
"NO. I'm going to leave you like this. It's not fair that you just left for no reason! I was thrilled when you said yes when I proposed to you, only for you to leave the next day. It hurt a lot Mary. Now it's your turn..."
She stared helplessly as he got up and walked out of her apartment, leaving her lying in the middle of the living room floor flopping weakly and in desperate need for water.
"No....please... .. come back" she called out to him weakly. She started to slowly drag herself to the bathroom, but only managed to move a few inches forward. She couldn't breathe, she needed water.....she wasn't going to make it.
She was almost completely dried out, only water left on her was her slightly damp hair. She hurt all over, her scales were so dry, she felt every part of her body ache from how dry she was. She could only lay there flopping and gasping for air she could no longer breathe. This was it she thought to herself, as tears fell down her face.
"Please.....someone....anybody....help...me" she whispered out. Her vision was going hazy as her gills were now useless.
Just as she thought it was the end, she felt someone run back in and pick her up and take her to the bathroom where she was literally tossed into the tub filled with water.
She felt complete relief as soon as she hit the cool water and she greedily gulped in water as much as she could. She stayed under the water for a few minutes recuperating until she realized that someone had helped her out. She hesitantly swam toward the edge of the tub and was met with her good friend Brian who she had a small crush on.
"Thank you..." she breathe out...
"No problem.." he said, now taking the time to stare at her changed body...
