You were surprised to hear Dr Tanner ask you how you felt about 'multiple heads'. You were not thinking entirely clearly due to having only woken up moments ago, but what could she possibly mean by that?
"Uhm. What?"
"We have worked out a way to let you become multiple people, while still retaining your current consciousness and personality. The downside is that in order to do that, each resulting body will need to have two heads. Is that something you would be interested in?"
Your heart fluttered. Having two heads didn't seem like much compared to becoming 2 people. And Dr Tanner did say that you would keep your consciousness. That was the whole reason you didn't go through with the change yesterday, that you might lose that.
"Yeah! After yesterday, I thought this wasn't going to happen."
"Well, Ms Ylviosa, we're nothing if not creative! I will need to assist you through setting up the change order on location. When would be a good date and time for that? We can do it today if you're not busy."
It was Friday, a busy evening at the night-club where you work. But, your boss had also given you the day off after she loaned you some money to pay for your change. You even had the weekend off too. Not getting paid or collecting tips this weekend was going to hurt in the short term, but she'd offered to hire the second you to work the same shift under a different name and employee ID. Very generous of her, except... you would need to pay her back anyway and that would just ensure she got her money back faster.
"Yes, I can come in today."
"Great! It's 9:30 now. How does 11 sound?"
"Uh, good. Thanks!"
After hanging up, you rushed to the shower. The TF Center was an hour drive away, and you didn't want to risk being late. Besides, after yesterday, your car was running a bit low on gas, so you'd definitely have to stop to refuel along the way.
In the shower, you quickly lathered and rinsed your long brown hair. Normally you would take it slow and maybe have a little fun, but there was no time for that today. The shower was over in only about 10 minutes, setting a new personal best. For clothing, a simple tank top and shorts were the first things in sight, and given they were acceptable for the day's plans, on they went.
As you stepped out of your room, you were greeted by the smell of a freshly cooked breakfast. You walked over to the kitchen, and on turning the corner, almost ran into Marcy.
"Whoa! Hey, you look better today." Marcy was holding a hot plate of your usual breakfast. Behind her on the stove, you could see more food cooking.
"Hey, yeah. The TF Center called, they said they were able to work something out for me."
"That's awesome! I figured you were in a rush after hearing you crashing about and then stampeding into the shower so... breakfast!" Marcy offered the plate to you, and tilted her head towards the table, where you could see silverware was already set out.
"Aww, thanks Marcy." You grabbed the plate and ate quickly. You finished just as Marcy was sitting down with her own breakfast. You waved bye to her as you headed to the door.
"Next time I see you, I want it to be double!" You couldn't help but grin as Marcy shouted after you.
The drive to the TF Center felt even longer than the first time. As you found a parking spot and got out, the dashboard clock ticked over to 10:58. Barely on time.
As you stepped inside, you were surprised to find Dr Tanner waiting for you near the consultation desk. She waved you over and warmly shook your hand, then directed you to a nearby terminal. She motioned you to wait a moment, and typed a code into the terminal, then stood still as it scanned her eyes. A few seconds passed, and the terminal chimed. Dr Tanner stepped back and motioned you to step up to the terminal.
"Alright, Ms Ylviosa, you'll need to select a few options to setup your change, like exactly how many people you want to become. After these options, you'll also have a chance to add any other changes you might want. I'll be here if you have any questions." She smiled, bowed slightly, and backed a few meters away from the terminal and leaned against the consultation desk. From where she was standing, it was clear she couldn't see the terminal's screen - it was all up to you.
"Oh, one quick question first. Uh... Why do I need to have multiple heads?" You looked over at Dr Tanner,
"It's complex and quite technical. The short version is: We need you to have two heads during the morphing process to properly manipulate personalities without risking complete division."
"Does that mean after I'm changed, I could go back to having 1 head? For each.. uh.. me?"
Dr Tanner grinned as you tripped over the words. "The English language was not sculpted with the possibility of plural people in mind. In the long run, I suppose, yes you could remove extra heads. Not immediately though. There will be an adjustment period of about a week before it will be safe to make any further changes."
"Oh, okay." You turned to face the terminal, and selected...
