A different kind of two in one

added by ruffus_java 7 years ago BM O

At the last second, you decide that if you were going to go this far, you were going to make a few other changes too. A larger bust, a more athletic build, blemish-less skin, even paused aging. When the terminal asked you to confirm your changes, you made one last change, almost on impulse. You tapped on the field "# of people" and changed the 2 to a 4. Then hit the "Finish" button.

Dr Tanner lead you over to a room with another attendant who had you sign a bunch of papers, confirm the change, assert you were getting this change of your own free will, and that you had at least 48 hours available for the change to complete.

Then you were lead into a round white chamber and told to lie down on a bed. The door closed behind you, and the domed ceiling was the last thing you saw before falling asleep.

Groggily, you open your eyes. Something was... weird. The dome ceiling seemed to be... overlaid on itself, just slightly off. Like a 3D movie that has gotten slightly out of (sync) (alignment) What? (Who is) (Am I) thinking that?

You let your head rotate to the left on the pillow... But there is another head there looking up at the ceiling. That's right! You have (two) (double) heads now! You turn your left head to look right, and stare into both sets of eyes. It was... (mesmerizing) (hypnotic). But not what you expected. You had always thought that looking into your own eyes would be (more surreal) (less mundane) and would let you see (into your own soul) (past the flesh).

This is getting (bizarre) (annoying). How is this happening? It's like you're (thinking two thoughts at the same time) (starting one thought and going two different directions). But you are (choosing both thoughts) (thinking both things). As you continue to stare into your own eyes, you realize, (this is happening because I have two heads) (if I have two heads, then I have two brains, and can think two things at once)!

You didn't consider this a (possibility when accepting the change) (feasible outcome in any way). At least it is still novel, and you hope it will (get better over time) (become less annoying). You turn your heads to look up again. It looks like you're in the chamber you fell asleep in. (Aren't I supposed to be 4 people now) (Where are the other me)?

You stand up and look (down at yourself) (around the chamber). As your left head looks down, your right head quickly spots the door you entered from. You notice that you aren't wearing your tank top any more - there seems to be a white garment instead. (What happened to my clothes? I wonder what I look like now.) (Seriously, where are the other me? Or should that be other 'mes'?)

Your right head spots a mirror, and you walk over to it so you can see what you look like now. In the mirror you see two identical heads on your shoulders, spaced evenly. Your hair is no longer brown but is now blonde, and flows down your back for about a foot. (Why blonde?) (I liked my old hair color). You are wearing a hospital gown instead of the clothes you came in with. (I hope they kept my clothes. I liked that top) (Wonder what I look like under this gown).

You pull the hospital gown off over your heads. In the mirror, you are stunned and amazed by what you see. Your stomach has lost the extra 10 pounds that never seemed to want to go away (glad that's gone) (it's probably my other head now), and you can see actual muscle tone. Your breasts have gone from a small B cup to a beautiful large C cup, and still look just as perky.

As you admire your new form in the mirror, a chime sound fills the chamber. (What was that?) (Does this place have a doorbell? OH!) You rapidly grab the hospital gown from the floor, and slip it on.

A few seconds later, the door cracks open and you can hear Dr Tanner's voice from beyond: "Are you decent?"

"(Yes) (Come in)" You speak two different things with both mouths at the same time. You glance inward, making brief eye contact as you blush with both heads. (So it's not just thoughts) (Oops)

"That sounded like a yes." The door opens further and Dr Tanner walks in, holding a clipboard and a pen. You look at her with both heads.

"Hi", you speak again from both mouths, but this time the same phrase. You can't help but grin at that small triumph.

"It sounds like you're still be adjusting to having 2 heads. Are you having any trouble with thoughts, or is it just with speaking?" Dr Tanner glances down at the clipboard and scribbles something on it.

"(Both, kinda.) (Both, kinda. I can feel two different... whoa my other head stopped talking. I didn't even realize I did that.)" You pause for a moment to collect your thoughts. (Funny how that phrase has multiple meanings for me now) (I should just talk with only one head for now.)

You try speaking again, this time only with your right head: "So, I'm definitely thinking two things at once. It's really weird, cause sometimes I'll start a thought and then I'll finish it two different ways at the same time." As you stop talking, you realize that you had unintentionally swapped which head was speaking at least three times. "(This is super confusing.) (Talking like this is hard.)"

Dr Tanner nods. "This is normal for a multiple-headed change with independent and linked brains like yours. There's always a difficult adjustment period immediately after waking up. On the bright side, it appears you're adjusting a lot quicker than most people. The average adjustment period is usually about 3 days."

This time, you start talking with your left head, "Does that mean the double thoughts are going to stop?" You successfully complete the sentence using only your left head, with no interjections by your right head.

"No, as long as you have two heads, you'll always be able to think multiple thoughts simultaneously. They will become less distracting as you finish acclimating. I've been told they become so natural and expected that people who have them and then have their extra heads removed actually miss them." Dr Tanner finishes writing on the clipboard, and looks up at you. "On the bright side, it looks like you won't need any more time to acclimatize before we can move on to phase 2 of the wake-up process."

She walks out the door and motions for you to follow. "Ready to meet your other yous?"
