"We could follow the blood," Agent Green commented, getting some hope of tracking down and bringing a murderer to justice growing again, but after a moment he looked back toward the other agents and officers that had gathered for the attempted ambush, "but we can't just leave this area unguarded... The bodies of those killed will need to be documented and taken to the city morgue and we'll also need to sweep the warehouse for anything that Ulysses might have left behind..."
Agent Peters and Detective Holmes looked to each other for a few moments and finally the female agent spoke.
"I can stay here and coordinate that," Agent Peters spoke, "there is plenty to gather and now that we're tracking/chasing Ulysses, having so many units in one place isn't as necessary."
"You'll still want to be careful though," Detective Holmes commented and pointed to the police cruiser that was parked at the ambush point that Ulysses and the Rat Pack had tried to flee out of. One of the car windows was shattered and Teddy could see several bullet holes in the side of the car's doors and fenders. The fact that the officers and field agent here had the car for cover probably protected them from getting hit when the shoot out began. "He might be on his own, but is likely armed... and like a wounded animal... he could be all the more dangerous than before."
Officer Ryan Connor cringed at the reference. It wasn't necessarily a bad reference, but at the moment it hit a little too close to home, and depending on what the body camera footage from the Seattle officers, the fact that Ulysses status as a were might be revealed and leading to a situation that would mean Moon Lake wouldn't be able to hide its secrets anymore. That was the big fear, even if nothing could be done on that until after Ulysses was caught.
"I won't go alone," Teddy assured them, "Detective Smith and a few of Seattle's finest and Officer Connor will go with me. That should give us enough manpower to handle him, regardless of how frightened or wild he may be."
There were a few nods and things began to breakup. For a moment Detectives Smith and Holmes moved to sort out which officers would remain at the warehouse to collect evidence and which would join Agent Green and Officer Connor in moving after Ulysses. While this was going on, Ryan moved closer to the Federal agent to speak with him quietly.
"I'm sure you're personally aware of this, but the real reason that Chief O'Hara accepted your offer to "deputize" one of his officers for this operation was to make sure that Moon Lake's secret DIDN'T get out," Ryan said to him, "If it did..."
Teddy sighed and nodded, "I'm sure... It's the whole nightmare scenario that I'm sure your town has. The world learns of weres and you get carted away out of fear." Teddy's thoughts turned to Marci, and his own fears of someone taking his wife away in a cage. "It's one of the things I've feared for my wife... that something would happen and someone would take her from me."
Ryan nodded. The scent was faint, but he could detect a hint of a werecat's scent on him. It wasn't that Teddy was himself a werecat, but rather that he had been close to one. If his wife was a true werecat, that'd make sense, and would give a real reason for why Teddy had been so were supportive.
"But we may be moving into the territory where secrecy isn't going to work," Teddy warned quietly, "we don't know what the body cameras caught when Ulysses fled and was wounded. If it was only a tail... we can say it was some kind of belt/costume/prosthetic piece that was lost during the flight or capture of him..."
"But if it's more than that?" Ryan questioned, his voice barely above a whisper.
"If it's more than that, keep quiet with regard to Moon Lake," Teddy urged, "I'll do what I can to get the Seattle PD to simply write things off as "weird" and drop the case with Ulysses capture or death. If that doesn't work... it may be wise when you get back to Moon Lake to discuss with your city leaders to discuss an announcement that you can use to paint were-beasts in the best possible light."
"You mean... let us be exposed?" Ryan asked, holding back much of the shock and surprise at the comment.
"We may be at a point where THAT has already happened," Teddy whispered in warning, "and while I can wield a great deal of authority over the hunt for Ulysses... I can't cover up the consequences of said hunt. Especially when I don't know how open the Seattle officers might be to tolerating the existence of weres and also keeping it secret. On some levels, coming out into the open might be the best thing for you in the long run."
Ryan gave a heavy sigh, as Detective Smith and three other Seattle officers began to approach them.
"And I WILL do everything I can to make sure that all is set right," Teddy spoke.
